Wastegate removal help

Try some heat I the nuts aren't rounded. Failing that you may have to remove the crossover to get access to grind them off.
 
A combination of heat, good six sided sockets, possibly with some WD40 and patience should see them removed. As a last resort some heat and Irwin bolt grips may remove the nuts and possibly shear the studs (on many occasions these bolt grips have got me out of trouble with rounded and corroded nuts).
 
Buy both sets of these and you will never look at rounded bolts with the same sense of fear again. These things are a must in any tool kit and are worth their weight in gold.

As above, but I would add don't worry about trying to remove the nuts with the studs intact as they're normally pretty well rusted together. Also the studs tend to rust quite a bit so are well undersized and should shear easily so if they don't want to undo don't be too afraid to just shear them as the studs will probably be toast and will require drilling out regardless.

I drilled out the old studs in a pillar drill and re-tapped them, but if you don't have access to the tools drop them with a local engineering shop.

Got one set of these already but going to have to get the other set as the what I'm trying to shift appears to be between sizes[:'(]
 
A four and a half inch Grinder with a 1mm slitting saw if you are safe with a grinder.

20 minutes work.

Then set about getting the studs out by welding a stub onto them or drilling carefully & extracting.

2 hours work

Job done.

To replace, use new steel studs and stainless nuts. (avoid stainless studs especially in hot applications - they are a nightmare)

Re your other question, I had great service from a Promax L2 kit and would also add the boost guage. I have had OE and Tial W/G in this application, - there is no difference and the OE fits easier & nicer.

not easy but if you sort the studs it will go back in a dream - I have a tial and does not fit as good or do anything different.

I'm going to have a go at your advice George. The wastegate bench tests ok, so a friend is going to re-stud it, a MBC is on order from Lindsey Racing (cut out the dreaded CV), I have a boost guage, renew the head gasket and belts etc. and check over the vacuum lines and the rest of the gubbins and see how she goes [8|]
