Watch out for the gritters

I was unfortunate a couple of weeks back to drive past 3 gritting lorries in the space of a few minutes

Gave the car a wash the next day and the bonnet , roof and windscreen had been peppered from the impact , not too serious but noticeable if it were your car

Spoke to the insurance company , took it to the bodyshop and they are respraying the entire front end , valance wings ,bonnet and roof including a windscreen replacement. My first claim in 20 years and I am doing it in style. Shame about the £400 excess but I suspect that's a small price to pay for the work being done.

The chap at the bodyshop(Porsche approved) commented that its common for porsche to respray cars on the forecourt not only to maximise their sale value but also to avoid being fined by the head office

Is this true , he mentioned a figure of £800 per car that was not perfect from the point of view of front end stone/chip damage

Yes Spiker from discussions with OPC dealers after looking at forecourt cars a year or two old with no front blemishes whatsoever, I have often been told that as a matter of course the fronts are resprayed. Whilst the Boxster never ventures out if any grains of salt are about, when in the Disco which has a lot of flat front I never pass or get close to one of those beasts even if on a motorway it means a slow drive to next exit to get in front! Many friends have had a total peppering of windscreen and front areas. Sounds as if all was well that ends well for you.

Many years ago I had a Volvo estate that got gritted down one side, I complained to the council, and even invited them to view the car with the grit still attached, they paid for a respray of that side of the car.

I did consider contacting the counciil but i am leaving the country for 6 months and i have so much to organise i just dont think i will get around to it and I think I masy have left it to late anyway

Hi Spiker, Unfortunately, councils are rejecting such claims, even those for pot holes/rim damage!...nowadays the simply suggest you claim from you own insurance company!
