Water dripping

Hello All

Had a good drive home from work last night and when putting the car away noticed an unpleasant sound coming from the rear end of the car, sounded like a belt noise then when I got under the car sounded more like a bearing sound, more crating type noise, left the car and this morning decided to start it from cold left it to run and the sound was still there after checking it and switching off I noticed water dripping from above one the main water hoses, could this be the water pump has had it? I tried to add a photo but never seem to be able to.

All thoughts would be good to hear.

Lucky it happened at home and not on a trip.

Cheers Phil

Almost certainly the water pump

Sounds like a worn bearing when running ?

Available from Porsche and Euro car parts about 220.00 both had stock but neither had Gasket (Believe it or not) (My Euro had a genuine one in stock)

If it not been done before you will need to cut the old gasket of as its a dual purpose gasket

Quite an easy job but you need to be able to support the Engine as the rear engine mount needs disconnecting

If you can get the rear bumper (PU) off easily it makes the job easier

You cant really tell if its the pump until you get it off!!

Plenty of coverage from Richard H

Best of luck

Hi Phil
The water pump is on the lower left hand side, not to hard to replace if you diy. See link

Many thanks for your responses.

It must be the water pump, I think the best thing is I get it booked into my garage to get them to have a look at it, my next concern is getting it there, I have a 20 mile drive straight run I guess the pump will only leak whilst driving the car and it's running but it will empty quiet quickly ? Maybe not advisable to drive ?

Many thanks Phil

2 hours work at most

Make sure they fit a Porsche part as said most Porsche Dealers stock it
My Euro Car Parts stock original Porsche but not a lot of saving

It really needs to be pouring out to cause a problem

Make sure its topped out before you leave perhaps check it again half way

As I thought it's not lost a lot of water and as it's only a problem when running I will keep and eye on it on route.

Many thanks this help is appreciated and as always I will make sure I get a genuine part.

Thanks Phil

Are you sure you don't have the old type Expansion Cap?

If its end 00 it will definitely need replacing as they don't hold.

That is a good point, I will check this but I am 99% sure the water pump has had it as there was a bearing noise which sounded very unnatural, unless it is something else but that would be a bit of a coincidence?

Thanks Phil
