Water Hoses

Not having much luck. 2 of my hoses have split.
Does anyone know the best place to get new hoses for my 1987 944 2.5 lux.
And if anyone can recommend replacing them with anything better than porsche parts.

I would try Porsche for the price of the hoses. You never know about the price of things. Failing that, Berlyn will probably help you out.

You could go for silicon hoses, but I know on some cars, they can make things worse (where there are specific fitments) and generally the stock hoses are fine even for things like Group N work. But this is just what has been read.

Thank you ChasR,

I am going to order a complete set tomorrow. I think the is only 6 or 7 hoses anyway.

Not sure what you mean by better than Porsche parts - nigh on 20yrs for a rubber hose isn't bad going in my view!! Anyhow, i'd certainly give Porsche a call, they may very well be the best price you can get. However for a bit of engine bling you might want to look at those shiny silicone hoses. Not sure if they are better or not, but they certainly look nicer.

I 100% agree with you. I did not mean any disrespect to the hoses or to porsche, Just my wording was bad[:)].

Are the silicone hoses a genuine part ? Anyway, I will phone Porsche and order a set.

Thank you .

To the best of my knowledge no one makes silicone hoses for 944s? Id thought about having a batch made: I will probably do it right after I commission the high torque starters.....

I spoke to Porsche. And they are get me original rubber hoses and clips for me to pick up from Hatfield, Hopefully friday. As i want the car back on the road for saturdays meet at the ace cafe.

My girlfriend picked up the new hoses and clamps today. So once i got in from work. I fitted them to my car. And all went in well. But now i have the oil light on. Is it possible that i have done any damage when the hoses broke, although it didnt over heat. I have checked the oil level and it is 3/4 up between the markers. Does anyone know what i should check or do. Thank you.

The oil pressure is between 3 and 4 at idle and go's to 4-1/2 when rev'ed. it is the light under the hand brake light that is staying on.

Fear not. Youve damaged the separate oil pressure warning lamp wires, in all probability. If the engine was on its arse then the gauge would be reading under 0ne bar all the time too.

Thank you 944 man. I will check the haynes manaul on the wiring.

Hi 944 man just read your quote below
"To the best of my knowledge no one makes silicone hoses for 944s? Id thought about having a batch made: I will probably do it right after I commission the high torque starters....."

On looking at your pic I'm guessing you have either a turbo or S2... if S2 then disregard this but if Turbo try replacing your starter with one listed for Non Turbo's.... They have 1.4kw output whereas the turbo starters are 1.1kw... I recently put a new 1.4kw on my turbo ( well last week in fact) and it's made a hell of a difference in starting the car...[8D]
