Water in my whale tail

My rubber tail spoiler is accumulating water on one side, which stays there until I can open the engine lid to let it drain. It takes well over 24hrs to drain fully, so I'm guessing the water's been absorbed into the rubber somehow.

Has anyone else come across this / know of a tidy fix?

It's a factory turbo tail fitted to an 81 SC Targa

A picture to show which tail I mean:

Well I have the same tail but no issues. I know some tails I've seen the rubber is pulling away from the metal creating quite a gap. Could this be the case and the rain is then collecting and being absorbed there?

Yes. One of the guys in the Turbo forum, where I also posted this, suggested it may have been pulled about during a respray. The gap is certainly a few mm wider on the affected side.

I had a feel around inside the wings and found the (rather rusty) nuts that hold it on. I'll take the rubber off and see what can be done with tightening it up / judicious application of a sealant - I'd rather not invest in a new rubber until after I've had the whole car re-sprayed, which is planned for next year, wife-willing!
