water in n/s footwell

after all the rain of the last few days, I have rain coming into the footwell and soaking the carpets. Never happened before in the 18 months I've had the car.

I had an alarm fitted and a wire led up the a post under the edge trim which wasn't put back properly, giving the water a great route in.
Blocked sunroof drains is favourite though!

Give us some more information. Does your car have a sunroof?
Is it wetting the front carpets or rear carpets?

If you have a sunroof, try the drain tubes. You have to remove the roof and you will see four drain holes. 2 front and two back. Pour a little water in each hole and see if you see the water coming out from under the car. If not use a little strimmer wire or similar to thread down the hole to clear it.

If its not from here, open the bonnet and clear any leaves etc out from the front of the engine space - where fuse box lives.

Report back and i will try my best to help.

Have cleared the sunroof holes, they seemed fine.

Under the bonnet there was water around the fuse box but the drain hole to the side into the wing was clear.

I guess the next things to check are the sunroof seals and door seals.

If its not these then try looking at the windscreen seal - i read on this forum that these can weep, letting water into the front footwells. This would show by the carpet close to the front seats being wetter.

ETA: I also read that the gromit and water pipe inside the fuel filler area can become detached - letting water into the inner sills and ultimately into the car itself.

May also be the rear screen hatch seal as this comes over quite a long way into the car. Almost above the rear seats. Check this too. This would show by the back seats carpet being wetter...

Report back - Im waiting for the rain to stop in conjunction with the weekend so i can stop my water ingress.

Are you sure its rain? many years ago my first 924 did a heater matrix .... wet foot-well carpets being the result, it was an absolute sod of a job to do as well! Hopefully yours is just a blocked drain tube....

Mine does the same. I found the leak under the corner of the windscreen on the drivers side. If I park the car with the nose below the rear or on the flat I have no problem. If I park with the nose above the rear of the car, the water runs down the windscreen, then underneath and then drips just in front of the pedals and runs to the drivers rear footwell. I will probably fix with some clear mastic next spring. Jason

I popped down to my local friendly garage and they cleared my bulkhead & sunroof drains with a blast of air. They were all blocked...

Have put newspaper in the footwell so if it was coming from screen it would be obvious by the water mark. None happened.
