Occasionally, passenger footwell gets wet in our 924S-have always put this down to leaves, etc blocking the outlet through the engine bulkhead(car normally left outside with 964 in the garage).
Very wet carpet ,Friday so took out battery this pm & cleared out the leaves & detritus-to be honest, the outlet was not blocked but the seam sealant around the battery retaining plate stud area appears to be cracking.
However, having cleaned everywhere ,I noticed that the 12mm horizontal body seam running along the edge of the inside wing pressing suddenly has an elevated 15mm section as it approaches the curved channel leading to the outlet in the engine bulkhead, and I could push a length of wire through this slot formed by the raised flange until it seemed to hit the inside of the inside wing, just ahead of the absorption canister.
Can anyone advise whether their 924S/944 has the same feature-is this meant to act as a drain as well perhaps exiting below the car somewhere,or is it the cause of our wet footwell & needs sealing when I seal the general area?
The drivers side doesn't have this feature-the same 12mm flange is flat all the way along the inner wing right to the engine bulkhead.
Note that there is no perforation of the battery area-it still has the original paint finish-other than perhaps the seam sealant hardening so much that possibly the act of tightening down the battery over the years has cracked the seal slightly, enough to let some water in.
