Water leak on return from a run

Have had no problems with my Coolant for 12 months
Have checked the level regularly.

WEnt for a 60 run around mid Wales got back home and smelt Coolant.

There was a leak from the Right (Off Side) hand side behind the rear wheels

Despite running the car for some time no leak. Engine running at about 85 and coolant low warning not showing

Got it up on Ramps and topped up the coolant (Reservoir was Empty) Did not need much coolant
Did NOT bleed the system

Ran it for some time - Coolant did not need topping up again

Not happy about the pipe that comes across from the other side of the car behind the Gearbox

Cant seem to down load the parts cataloge

Any ideas please

I just had a similar experience, more seepage than leak, that left a drip ob the rear offside. My levels reduced to well below the min mark after a run, though the tank was not completely empty. It turned out to be a perished seal on the main water return pipes. Found under a pressure test so worth having a look there.

That sounds possible
Will find someone who can check the Pressure
Running it again
Are these main water return pipes the metal ones that go into the rubber ones
Problem with POrsche is there are so many Rubber hoses and pipes

Trying to locate a Coolant Diagram for a 996 (mk1) Auto S 4
Got loads of books but nene are really helpful in showing all pipes

Don't think its water pump that was replaced a yar ago. It APPEARS to be coming from the Off Side (Right) of the car in front of the gearbox

Stupidly I waited for it to cool down Put it on ramps and now it will not leak!!

Does make sence that its a seal as that culd be intermittent

Thanks for your imput will try again

Need to get it sorted as we are going on holiday to Lincoln early
next month

Richard,

You were asking about pipe details. Section 105 of the PET I referenced isn't just for the water pump. If you look further you'll see all of the coolant hoses, clamps, etc., detailed.

Are you sure that it's not just the coolant cap leaking? A known problem and a cheap and easy replacement for starters.

I had a similar problem water was appearing just in front of rear wheel, it turned out to be a leak from the cooling pipes that run underneath the car. It was perforated just after the front wheels and getting blown back. New pipe sorted !!!.

Jeff Its not the cap It came from the other side
Not leaking at present despite two lots of cooling down and running and run around by pass.

aks again but will see if a pressure test shows the leak up.

Very strange - all the pipes and Hose "LOOK" ok

Thanks for the info

It only leaked the once

Will get it pressure tested early next week

Going on holiday 5th May so need to get it sorted by then.

Thanks
