Water pumps

Sadly mine has sprung a small leak and may well need to be replaced (1990 T). Now they seem to be rather expensive - 390 at Bert's incl vat. So are there any alternatives or are they one of those parts where original is best? Design 911 have one at 155 which is a bit different. I assume this is a pattern part but the part number is correct.
Thoughts?

Good heavens! I remember when original pumps (for all models) went down to £100 plus VAT at dealers (soon to be followed by rear exhaust sections for the same price)!

Had mine done with belts and rollers recently...it showed some sgns of leakage so was replaced on a "just in case" basis. Water pump "kit" was listed as £322 on the invoice (probably included elbow, gaskets, thermostat, clips?) I recall some discussion with the Indie about OP part vs exchange/recon.but can't remember the decision....probably OP as a failure could be so catastrophic!

Do we know who makes them for Porsche? Will phone Exeter and Swindon dealers tomorrow for a price.

I believe LASO have been the one and only supplier for 944/928 water pumps since the beginning. They also make other parts for our cars - see their catalogues [link=http://www.laso.de/home.php?width=1024&height=768&lang=en&id=1010]here[/link].

Was offered an original pump from ECP today for £180. Still not 100% my leak is from the pump -it almost seems to be coming down the side of the block. Rich
