Waterless Engine Coolants....

Hi all,

My 2004 C2S has bad corrosion in many places under... Long story, no point boring you with that, but my post and question is about Coolant/Anti freeze in these cars. The usual stuff has water in it and is pressurised; ergo corrosion and corroded/leaking pipes. I am NO mechanic but I kind of understand this as it has been explained to me.

So I had the front coolant pipes replaced last year, and I will bite the bullet and get the rear ones done, which means engine out... (while I am at it with the engine out, I will have the IMS bearing and RMS replaced, water pump and utility belt)...

The question is has anyone used or have views about waterless engine coolants, like Evans as an example? Apparently racing teams use this type of coolant... It is NOT pressurised (does not need to be as the boiling point is higher than water) so less strain on parts and no corrosion... It is much more expensive than normal water based products but it is "life of the engine" stuff...

Any views welcomed!

PS. I am asking my Indie who has been looking after my 911s' since 1997, and I will report back anything he opines...

Many thanks JP

I had my front hoses etc replaced last year however the rear ones appear from the chaps to be hunky doorey

With regard to the waterless coolant - when I had a low temp thermostat installed at the same time as the fronts hoses I did
ask if waterless coolant is a silver bullet. The indy I use and trust remarked no.

For general information any 997 after engine no M97/ 0168 50971 has the larger IMS - 3.8

The 3.6 from M96/ 05 6950 7476 have the larger bearing

HI Jp
Im running a Cayman and
I also asked the question & was told would not make lot of difference.
I had the low temp thermostat fitted which kicks in earlier keeping the engine cooler.
hope this helps

Thank you everyone!

Feedback from my Indie was also not to bother.... and they compete in the Carrera Cup...

I am changing the oil every year from now on, rather than the 2 year interval.
