Watery Boot

After driving through the rain to the Goodwood PCGB track day today and getting the towing eye out I noticed the front luggage compartment had (clean and fresh i.e. new) water beneath the carpet.

Any ideas?

Gary,

Thanks,

It could well be. I managed to spend some time at home today and the water cannot be mopped up entirely because it seems to have a little 'reservoir' up somewhere. I opened the battery cover and in the right hand (driver's) side rear of the compartment there is a sunken stud bolt which had some water in it. I have checked the two compartments at the back of the boot that contain the tyre sealant and the centre lock 'bolt' and these are completely dry.

I need to get behind the carpeted boot area to see where the 'reservoir' is to dry it out but I guess it is OPC job to dismantle all the trim.

Hi, I also noticed water in boot.....checked and cleared four breathers near battery. Thought I had fixed it, but wet again today.
This time have used an "ear" syringe to suck out remaining water from area below compressor....so hope that's it.

Do you knwo where the grommet is that was replaced ?

Thanks, Alan

I tried looking up grommets in the parts catalog but there are quite a number - see

and select 997 Carerra & Year

Good luck - Summer is coming...

Leak located.....it's in the indentation that holds the flat tyre filler stuff, which is the drivers side indent on mine, centre lock key is in the other indent.
On removing the boot trim allows access to this pre formed indenation and the leak is at the top of this area....unable to stop from inside, it's clear water that must be coming down from the semi dry area that house the battery....then running past a seam that allows the water in to the boot !

Had car in Aberdeen OPC....but now offical bodyshop is in Glasgow...so being picked up tmorrow (Tues) to be fixed under warrenty !

Update will follow !

Boot leak fixed, did take a couple of visits to the bodyshop (Mitchell Inglis)...needed to have petrol tank taken out to re-seal area in body tub. Had some heavy rain....dry as a bone in the front.....and the car came back detailed like new ! Picked up and delivered on a nice trailor...so no miles on me, and luckily all on warranty !
