WEEKEND OF THE YEAR

Back by popular demand the weekend of the year is planned for the three days comprising Friday 20th Sat 21st and Sun 22nd Sept. This is probably a week or so later than normal but as a mark of gratitude to James who has so splendidly organised this in the past we have chosen these dates because James' diary is full for the first two weeks of Sept. At the moment there is accomodation available here (follow link http://www.chainbridgehotel.com/ ) where the cost of two adults in a double room is £69 PER ROOM per night

We will fill in the finer details nearer the time but an outline itinery is as follows:

Fri 20th Meet at convenient location on the M4 (Reading Services?)
Drive to Llangollen with the possibility of a lunchtime halt
Check in to hotel and check out some local landmarks depending on time
Sat 21st Drive to the horseshoe pass. stop at the Ponderosa for lunch. enjoy the fantastic views from the pass and photo opportunities (time depending we might have time to drive to portmeirrion where the Prisoner was filmed.)
Sun drive to the Llangollen railway for a subsidised return trip on the seven mile strech of preserved track, the train will be pulled by an engine in steam (Sunday is the only day out of the three when a steam locomotive is in use )
Return home.

As I see it the cosst would be £160 or£170 (depending on canal or river view room) plus meals. The train journey would be £7 on top (reduced from £12)

Without doubt this hotel will start to book up quickly so please get in touch with either James or myself if you wan to commit to this event.

I have taken a quick (?) recce to the Chainbridge Hotel and it is tucked away with parking for about 8 cars at the same level as the hotel and an overflow carpark all very secluded. Having decided to experiment with a "scenic route via Stourbirdge and Wolverhampton, unless anyone has a burnig desire to self flagellate I would recommend that we stick to the motorways. We leave the M54 and take the A5 so it wont be all Motorway. The Ladies of LLangollen Museum and tea rooms are in the town and are a convenient left turn from the main road and we should get there at about 1 p.m. if we leave Warwick services at around 10.30 a.m. An added bonus is the discovery of a motor museum within walking disatnce of the hotel, probably not very big but a possibilty for Friday afternoon. The back road from the hotel forms a junction with the horseshoe pass and is not going to be difficult to find. Time permitting we could have lunch at the Ponderosa and have a mooch around the town Saturday afternoon
