Finally found some time to spend in the garage. A few weeks ago I checked the grinding and intermittent rear blower fan (of previously many blown 30A fuses - judging by the fact there were 3 dead ones in the spare fuse holders!) Noticed when removing the hot air socket/duct the fan was wobbly and wearing against the fan casing. Out it all came and on the bench. Shot motor bearing causing large motor casing wear (in the pic). Bit of hassle removing the fan from the motor shaft (but easier with a heat gun). Brand new Bosch motor and perfect. Will bolt back on next weekend.
Old and with dirty fan..
Old motor showing wear slot and new motor (which has thicker end plate too).
New and with clean fan..
Not so shiny... note the casing wear from the scraping fan.
Very shiny...
Next item. Flickering belt light made me inspect the alternator belt jockey wheel. As stiff as you like - pulled the wheel back and it wasn't dropping back against the belt, despite the spring pressure. Out it came and taken apart. The wheel shaft, sleeve bearing, micro switch and inside the housing all gunged up with what looked like waxoyl or similar - very waxy. Good clean out with solvent and a regrease and now as new.
Ready to screw back together...
