All the best Brett [:)]

Since owning my S4 I've had several problems, some due to the previous owner not spending money when he should have. So far I've done all the service stuff, replaced the MAF & had the LH ECU recon'd.
But the latest thorn in it's side is the torque tube/flex plate thing. I never realised the pinch bolt had to be released & re-torqued until a few months ago. I did the above but didn't realise the damage had been done. This with the temporary loss of oil pressure has basically deystroyed the engine.
It had started to knock slightly,(no.8 cylinder) & was smoking when cold. Turns out when I released the torque tube pinch bolt the crank came back into line & & there was now piston slap(no.8) as they were now running true rather than at a slight angle. The oil was full of swarf!
The fix, new block, pistons & rings. Make sure you re-torque that bolt every service.

Hi.... I have a Porsche 928 S4 1989 "G" Reg I have had it a few weeks but think I have 2 problems,
My temp gauge goes to just under Red after 5/10 mins of use and stays there.... runs fine and checked coolant level and fans working ? plus my oil pressure goes up as the car gets faster... stays on 2 or 3 when driving around normally but goes right up to 5 when doing 80 to 90 mph... I am a bit worried about driving it although the last owner of 2 years said it had always been like this and is fine ... can anyone tell me if this is how 928s run "Hot and with varible oil pressure" ?

Thanks

Pazzy

Hi Pazzy!
I am only a novice but I think you'll find that the coolant does run hot (mine is just below the white line next to the red!) and I have been told that the oil pressure is meant to be 5 bar at idle when cold, 2/3 bar at idle and 5 bar at higher speeds when at normal temperature. I'm sure Brett will correct me, if wrong. In any event that is the way my GTS runs. At first it's worrying how fast it warms up.
Enjoy it!

Had to replace the aircon, although supposedly done by the seller and, when I had it done, it was done bit by bit and one bit at a time! Have always had small problem with the steering - it moans and there are rough spots... Am still trying to sort this out. According to the OPC changing the rack only cures the problem temporarily...., hence not the cure.
