Weird Lighting problem

How's this for weird.

About 30 seconds after I start the car, the left indicator light on the rev counter lights up (steady - not flashing) and stays on permanently. Also, the front fog lamp light by the meain headlight switch comes on dimly - not as bright as if the fogs are actually on.

Outside the car, both sidelights are on, regardless of the switch position. The NS litronic headlight and indicator won't operate, but the OS will. Fog lamps seem ok. At the rear, the NS indicator comes on dimly but steady (not flashing) when switched on.

I've booked her into OPC Swindon next Tuesday, but if anyone has any ideas then I'd love to hear them! My strongest suspicion so far is an earth fault in the NS light cluster - but that doesn't explain why both fogs work!.

Sounds like an earth problem to me too, but the last time that happened to me was on my V reg (as in 1979!!) VW Polo I had when I was a student. The solution: open boot - push wire back onto blade connector - close boot. Your OPC will probably find a way to ease 3 hours labour out of you to strip the front end down!!

If they do then I'll just make a ::[cough]:: warranty ::[cough]:: sort of noise

OPC has diagnosed the problem: an iffy light switch. A nice shiny new one will arrive tomorrow.

I guess I'll have to cope with their car til tomorrow....

Ah... you get a replacement light switch in days... mine took weeks "to order in". Lucky you! [;)]
Though my car's issue was the interior lights not "knowing" that I'd turned the headlight switch on, therefore there was no dashboard illumination. Took several weeks to fix but fortunately all under warranty.
