I have noticed since pulling the porker out of winter home that after start up, even if the car warms up for a bit, once i pull off, after a few yards I hear a "whirring" followed by a soft (muted) clunk noise, form the drivers side wheel arch?
I dont have aircon, the whirring is about 1.5 seconds long, followed by the soft clunk, then it never happens again.

No ABS lights on, no brake problems, car drives fine.

is it somethign about to go, is it something that happens on other cars?

I have a dry bearing somethere on the steering colum that makes a screechy hum noise, (like a damp finger round a wine glass dinner party trick noise!), but only when applying full lock and only formt he column, (its been doing it for a few years!)

Any ideas, I suspect its abs related, btu any ideas what and what it signifiies?

cheers

It is part of the ABS self check routine, the pump is tested, if the noise isnt there then the light will come on,
Tony

Your wine glass noise sounds like the TADS PAS howl which is a resonance of the fluid in the pump/pipes, not a bearing.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I have a faulty ABS sensor at the moment. Mine makes the noise then lights the warning lamps in the dash.

Its weird it never used to make the noise, but still no light on the dash, ABS seems t be ok, (although my discs are so warped at present they act like abs on their own!)
