Welcome and help please

Hi everyone, welcome to the region 10 forum.

I' ll start the ball rolling by asking for help with the following....

I thought it would be useful to have a regional FAQ.

If nothing else this would be a huge help in locating local suppliers and services when needing something Porsche related. The actual FAQ will most likely exist on the Region 10 area of the PCGB website but I' d post a message here whenever I updated it.

Topics could include...

x.0 - Supplier Information
x.1 - Tyres
x.2 - Tyre Fitters
x.3 - Servicing
x.4 - Bodywork
x.5 - Mechanical
x.6 - Engine
x.7 - Tools
x.8 - Carcare
x.9 - Inspections

y.0 - Places to visit
y.1 - Pubs
y.2 - Restaraunts
y.3 - Favourite Routes
y.4 - Other

Anyone got an other idea' s for topics?

Got any recommendations for any of the topics above?

Please respond if you can think of anything. The more posts there are the more posts are generated and the whole thing builds on itself into a really useful and buzzing forum.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy, Well you can put down Tyres Northampton as my recommendation. They are well used to dealing with tyres for Porsche, know how to take care of alloy rims and have very competitive prices.

Andy,

Thanks for volunteering to be our moderator.
X.3 servicing - I can highly recommend Charles Marsland at Auto2000

Nice one Andy. Mechanicals, such as Suspension, Geometry all porsche' s up to and including 3.2 carerra' s have found Francis Tuthill' s outstanding. With a rally background and large workshop (huge) they seem to do the kind of work that you know will last. Good with paint as well, (if you can stand the waiting list)

I just thought it was worth bouncing this to the top, as it's a great idea that deserves another chance. Would it be possible to get system admins to leave this, or something like it at the top as a sticky? Compared to some other sites, I find using this search engine to look through old posts for recommendations etc. errr..... a little challenging

Forum posts are not the ideal format for an FAQ though - maybe something like a Google map or a Wiki page might be better, althogh I don't know much about how to set up the latter

Chris,

I can see the usefulness of something like you suggest - although you can see for yourself that almost 5 years of sitting on the forum has only got this thread 6 posts!!!

The problem of doing something like you suggest is that it somewhat goes against the grain of the overall Club approach - there is the Traders Index already but, admittedly, that's not Region oriented. Some time ago I did suggest something similar, specifically for PPI inspectors and it was suggested at the time that it should be in the Members Only section. Although I disagreed with that at the time I suspect a wider range of recommendations might get the same suggestion.

With the (hopefully) imminent release of the new PCGB web site there is a chance that something like you suggest might be incorporated - at Regional or National level - but we won't know until the new site sees the light of day. If anyone "in the know" would comment it would be appreciated.

As the current R10 moderator I could sticky the post but, as you say, it's not really the best solution. Maybe others might have a view??

Regards

Dave

Hi Mike,

Good point - I was mainly thinking of something that reduced the number of times people like me kept asking the same numpty questions!

I've had a quick play with Google maps, which I think is a better bet. I'll send you a link that sets you up as a collaborator on it, mainly because yours was the only email address I could find easily after a quick look! Everyone else can have a browse here.

If you click on the pins you can see not just where people are, but phone numbers etc. and also some posts that I've taken the liberty of pasting in. The key to this is collaboration - if something's wrong, any collaborator can correct it or they can add new items etc., and I've set it up so that any collaborator can invite anyone else to contribute. If anyone else wants to contribute, send me an email.

I appreciate the point about going against the grain though - not sure if this is better or worse, but I can kill it off very easily if so. My take on it is that it's more about members experiences and opinions rather than advertising or anything like that. Probably worth an experiment though
