Generally covered by forum posts.
Still working on my friends points fitted early 924-now getting it to start but having to check through the rest of the fuel system as I think the fact that it doesn't carry on running is down to fuel system-just hope my rebuild of the fuel distributor isn't the problem.

Andrew.
The calendar is:
http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/calendar.htm. Not sure which day of the weekends we will be racing at yet.
May not do all of the races but will try for as many as time/ work/ money allow.
The CSCC weekends should be real Porschefests as we have about 27 members racing Porsches across all our series relatively frequently and on top of that the new Dunlop Production Porsche series will race with the CSCC too.

I plan on getting my turbo to the Thruxton dyno day organised by Tref on 25th January. Steve Hodgkins is taking his CGT. Any other 924's up for it? Diary is quickly filling for 2014 924 days out. Look forward to catching up with you all here and there

Roll on spring! []

I think we will miss Porsches on the Prom, but we will definitely be 'Through the Trough' again and we have booked our accommodation for the Old Timer Grand Prix again.
Over the Winter I have had the wheel bearings replaced, which has cured the tyre rumbling! Should have gone with my first impressions.
I have had a replacement windscreen fitted, green tint top. The old screen had started to delaminate around the edges. I was really surprised when removed how much of the strength and rigidity had been lost, however a clear view now and how it has improved the look of the car!
Hope to catch up over the summer, and do not forget to drop a line to Paul with your stories for the PP.
Regards

Having rebuilt the fuel distributor-fitted new cam belt-& corrected the 75mm out cam timing, repositioned the distributor & set correct timing, but with engine only running 15 secs max, it was time to work backwards from the fuel filter back through the fuel accumulators.
Took the outlet hose off the filter first to find crud! in it -like very fine tea leaves--ran the pump using the switched & fused jumper lead & found the fuel pumped through had more of the same.
A good point however was that fuel supply was well up at over 1000ccs in 30 secs & pressure well over 6.5 bar.
Told my friend little point in doing anything more until fuel tank was drained ,cleaned out & fuel lines blown thro'
So off it was towed in fact using my spring loaded rigid bar -went to have a good look both at the fuel supply kit & what came out of the tank. The removable outlet plate had a half "tomato" shaped dome of thick muddy material on it & the petrol drained was well contaminated.
Back in his garage with fresh petrol but initially only 5 litres ,it started 1st twist of the key but only ran for 15 secs.My presumption was that despite the rebuilt fuel distributor,it must have been contaminated by the fuel previously so decided to fit the newer version that my friend had from the later car.Technical data says you have to also use the later fuel accumulator, but I reckoned that could wait 'til later-I couldn't see that using the existing 20 cc version fitted would prevent the car starting.
In the meantime my friend cleaned the newer matching injectors with his ultrasonic unit & yesterday swapped the top parts of the Bosch units over including the Bosch socket from one to the other .
Left the existing braided fuel lines -engine started immediately but still only ran for 20 secs max. No desperation but realisation that problem now could only be the braided lines & injectors , so then fitted the steel fuel lines & cleaned injectors and because of the shaped steel ends in the fuel lines where they attach to the fuel distributor, coupled with the fuel line lengths, automatically prescribes which line goes where cylinderwise at the distributor--slightly surprised to find they attach in the same order as the firing order-
Engine again started 1st twist didn't run long but fuel system by now had been disconnected several times so started /stopped engine several times hopefully to disperse air from system--after these attempts engine finally started to tick over & as it warmed slightly it would pick up speed when opening the throttle ( just the 1st stage) & settle back to a reasonable tickover when throttle released.
Will now have to wait 'til next week ,to get car out of garage to really warm up,set timing accurately (have repaired my strobe /Tacho/dwell meter/voltmeter) ,adjust mixture (have a Gunson exhaust analyser) & idle speed.
Had to stop as his garage was filling up with smoke etc -after all, having not run for 12 yrs or so-all accumulated stuff was coming out of the exhaust--his double garage is built into the house![&o]
Went home feeling rather happier with it than has been the case some weeks ago.
Trouble is -unless I refit the other distributor ,I will never know whether my rebuild was really successful--I do now think it was the injectors.

Still here - according to the government there are 1042 of all flavours of 924 taxed and potentially on the road . . .
Just re-taxed the turbo for the next 12 months and ran the beast around the block to keep everything moving. All electrics working and just looking forward to some drier roads to get a few mile under the belt. Need to then plan for wheel refurbishment in the Spring. Used Wheel Pro Scotland in Edinburgh for my Merc and they did an excellent job.
Roll on some better weather!
Cheers.
Robert
...to get a few mile under the belt.
Get out there and give it some stick[] looks a nice car - Series 2 presumably?

Just bought a 1980 Turbo with Carrera GT kit. Will post some pics later.
I want to start exploring options for a little more poke from the motor. Been reading the JMG words of wisdom but they are miles away so would like to find a 924 Turbo expert somewhere in the Bucks, Herts area to first of all tell me what I have already! and then give some options as to where to go next.
Understanding that recommendations are dangerous....any recommendations?
Thanks
Ed
