I’m putting this out there to gauge interest.

I’m organizing a ‘Wessex Tour’ covering West Berkshire, South Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. I have choosen Sunday 9th July 2017 as this is a free slot in regions event activity.

Starting at Donnington Grove Hotel, Newbury and ending up at the Crab and Boar near Chieveley and about 5 minutes drive away from J13 on M4 and A34 Exit.

Plan will be to leave Donnington Grove around 10am after a morning coffee and be back at the Crab and Boar for 1pm, for a beer and/ or lunch.

The drive will last around 2 hours 30 minutes with a pit stop into Dick Lovett’s Porsche and Ferrari garages at Swindon, roughly mid way and will be around 100 miles in length in an anti-clockwise direction covering Wantage, Lambourn, Aldbourne, Bishopstone, Chisbury, Wroughton, Avebury, Marlborough, Hungerford.

Here is web link from Piston Heads covering the trip which I have adapted slightly, that gives a good feel for the roads, and the great downland scenery.

If you are interested please contact me on my email aholymanjones@hotmail.com and I’ll create list and forward the full itinerary. Dependent on interest it may be necessary to do a batch release of cars to limit size of the tail.

This has been sent our from Cotswold Region (R31) but circulating also to R17 (Southern), R16 (Gloucestershire) and R19 (Thames Valley) as the trip takes in all these regions as well as on 991 and Macan car sections.

Please send Name, Car and number of persons and include your mobile phone number.

Cheers
Adrian

Somewhat late to the party I would be the first to admit; but anyway earlier this week I sent an message to the e mail address in the orignal post above expressing interest and enquiring whether there were any spaces left. As there has been no reply to my message I will assume the answer is no.

Hi
Sorry about that. I'll see if I can find your email. I actually checked this morning. Just looked in now, you are not in junk or actual email.

Yes places left. Should be a lovely day.

Can you please email again. See if we connect 2nd time.

Adrian

I plan to be at Donnington Grove at 9am. When you enter follow road into hotel/golf course complex over humped back bridge (lake on your left) and bare left towards hotel. The Targa will be parked up near main entrance. If you go the other way takes you behind hotel to golf course area.

Looks like you guys took in some of my personally favourite roads! If ever you need a support vehicle I'm sure the 970 will step up

Anyone that took part like to write a few words (150 ish) for the Region's Porsche Post write up? A couple of high res pics (min 2362 × 1574 px @ 200ppi) would be greatly appreciated too. Our copy deadline is next Tuesday 25th. Many thanks.

R31 Wessex Tour 9 July 2017

We were blessed with a lovely warm sunny morning to drive 100 miles or so through rolling Downlands of West Berkshire, ending up at The Crab at Chieveley (5 minutes from J13 on M4).

A mixed selection of cars, including:- 987 Boxster S, a brand new Cayman, 991 Targa S and a drop dead beautiful Carrera GT.

We started on B4494 heading out to Wantage. A nip over to Lambourn, then along the valley to Ashbury. A minor detour to see the Uffington White Horse, back to Aldbourne via Baydon along Ermin Street, a Roman road that runs parallel to M4. This is a classic driving road. Next onto the old Swindon road from Hungerford.

Next up Avebury (better than Stonehenge in my view, more to see and touch), then along the wide A4 to Marlborough, Hungerford and then via Great Shefford on A338 and quick cutback over the Downs on the back roads to Brightwalton and finally ending up at The Crab for a beer. In all around 3 hours of fun.
