Wet Cabriolet

Our recent purchase has a bit of a problem...
I expected a 17 year old cabriolet to have a few leaks, but after the last couple of days rain, there was over 2 inches of standing water behind the drivers seat and at least an inch in behind the passenger seat...!

Where does this all come from and is there anyway to prevent it or at least help.. Without putting the car in the garage or getting a cover [8|]

All I can see is that there is a small gap between the door and body at the back of the window. (Frameless). The seal here looks ok... Has it shrunk..

Any advice before more rain and SNOW.
 
One thing you could try is to rehydrate the rubber seals using the Zymol product. If you go to http://www.vertar.com/product.asp?P_ID=169&strPageHistory=search&strKeywords=rubber&numPageStartPosition=1&strSearchCriteria=any&PT_ID=all and have a look. I used this on my 944 S2 Cab and it really helped.

May not be the be all and end all to your problem, but it will help.

just had another thought which may or may not be relevant as my trouble was with a 944 S2 Cab, when you open the boot, in the top left and right hand corners are there rubber grommets or holes in the bodywork? Mine didn't have them, so when I got them sorted, I no longer was getting puddles in my rear footwells.

Didn't cost me an arm or a leg, bought the bits from an OPC, didn't take ages to fit, what took the time was fitting the pipes to run into the holes at the bottom of the battery and counter weight bays.

Yep buy a coupe.
These can leak from any where but I cured the Worst ones on mine by replacing the outer window scraper seals which were too short and I've seen this on a few cars so have a look at those (very cheap to reaplace also) water was POURING in though the door and also ruined the door panels on mine.
You could always sit in the car while the better half goes over the car with the hose pipe.
Mine steal leaks a little at the top corners of the 1/4 lights where they meets the roof, just cant seem to adjust it perfectly, and bottom corners of the windscreen.

Be warned after you think you have dried her out properly there is a dip/fish tank in the passenger footwell behind the wooden foot boards where water can sit for ages.
 
Thanks for this I'll look at replacing these... they do look short... Are Cab ones diferent to the coupe ones..?
And we have a coupe as well....[:D] Which used to leak as well, but is dry now all the windows were taken out for its respray and new seals used...
 
Have a look at the 'Targa Seals' post on the SC forum at the monent. Good tip on using Vaseline to recondition seals - I am going to try this at the weekend on my Targa (cheaper than Zymol).
 
Yes.. I had thought about using the good old vaseline, however the offending seal isn't rubber but more like a big strip of foam with a velvety feel, running up the back edge of the window... So vaseline could just end up making a mess..?
 
Ah, OK. I know the sort of thing from other convertibles. Agree Vaseline probably not the answer!

You might try asking the guys at Southbound Trimmers - 01264 810080. They have lots of experience in targa and cabrio hoods and seals and have always been very approachable when I've called (although I suppose it's paid off as I've just given in to ordering a set of leather door panels and bins from them - good quality items but not too cheap!!!).

This particular English summer isn't doing you any favours is it!
