Wet carpets

Hi
Need some help please, I have water coming in to the floor on both driver and passanger side of my 86 carrera targa in the front, saturating the carpets. The roof itself doesn't seem to be leaking, has anyone got any thoughts on what could be the problem. The problem happens when the car is stationary also.

Kind regards.
Gary

Tricky one, but check the quater light seals on the doors, and where the door frame shuts to the a-pillar. Any gaps here will obviously let water in, the frames are adjustable I think. Might be best to get in the car and have someone hose the outside. Then you may be able to see where the water is getting in. Another option is check the air intake above the bonnet, water can get in here and should drain out the bottom of the fan housing. If the drain is blocked it might be possible for it to leak into the cabin. Door seals can loose their springiness and not seal tight enough against the door. Also check the bonnet seal, less likly to get into the floor, but worth a look.

Could still be the roof, just not that obvious. Best to get inside and do the hose test. Any roof leaks should be easily spotted.

Hello
I have had a similar problem, but mainly happens when driving in heavy rain the rear carpets can get soaked and sometimes the front. It is a design fault under the carpets in the rear there is a hole in the bodywork which lets the water in. There is a post on the forum, some time ago that how I found out, try using the search as there are pictures showing the places if you can't find let me know and i'll have a look through my old emails

I had lots of leaks on mine, heres some of what they found.

Front and rear screen seals, speaker 'backs' fitted upside down, smugglers box lid and bonnet seal. door mirror, door seals

If you check for leaks with a hose, have someone sit inside and slowly start at the bottom of the car and work your way up with the hose, DON'T start at the top

Good luck.

Hi All

Any holes in the floor should have non return drain plugs ie. let water out not in.
Drain tube from top air intake (as mentioned before) through passenger side, should also be checked as this gets blocked over time.

Hope this is of some help.( you could call Charles Marsland 3.2 Reg Sec)

Have fun

Hi. I recently had the same problem and heavy rain or water fom a hose would find its way through to the interior. The reason was that the drain pipe from the bottom of the air intake [above the bonnet] has become detatched from the lower part of the air intake 'funnel', causing the water to drain down the outside of the pipe, staight down into the footwells. Removing the carpet(s) from the front boot and the cardboard facing that is at the rear of the complartment will only take a few minutes, however it will enable you to have a good look at the air intake assembly and the drain pipe/hose at the bottom - it also gve you an insight into other bits and pieces that are there as well.
Hope you find the cause and get it sorted out. Happy motoring to all!

Thanks for that guys very helpful indeed, had a nose around at my seals and noticed my passanger side window seal doesn't fit properly, but i'll give a few of the suggestion a try.
Regards
Gary

Water leaks are often a process of elimination. I would try door seals first - they are often the culprit. They can look OK but still let in water.
