Wet door cards

Ive just removed my door cards to replace a broken central locking rod and have noticed the bottom of the door cards have suffered from water getting to them. Is this water likely to be coming in through the plastic sheet/seals that covers the holes in the door , and if so what do people usually replace this with as mine are loose in a couple of places. Also how does the water get into the door? I replaced the outer scraper seal a few years ago.

It could be yes, have you replaced the plastic membrane? Most people repair the bottoms of the door cards with fibreglass, once they have dried out of course [;)]

I believe you can but they will be hideously expensive for what they are. I'd buy some butyl tape of ebay and some clear polythene (poly tunnel) from your local garden centre and make them yourself. it won't be quite as thick as the originals but its not going to be seen.

You should be able to buy quite heavy poly at a builder's supply or home improvement center - at least 6 mil - the usual stuff used as vapor barrier is often 2 mil - too delicate to handle sizing and perforation as required for a door seal (it will be a wrinkled and stuck-together mess long before you get it on the door.
If your door cards showed no signs of moisture when you replaced the outer scrapers then I'd be checking drainage, etc as one would expect that to be condensation that is not drying out quickly enough...
