If you know the water is coming from the top, which it obviously is as gravity plays in to it, then we know it's the roof or top of the hatch.
The roof is simple: it sits in a gutter, with a seal, and is clamped tight by the two arms. If water gets past the seal, there are four drains in the gutter to take it out under the car. So, it's pretty straightforward to see what's going wrong.
With the roof out, is the gutter clogged with moss and dirt, and do all four drains flow clear? Does the seal look in reasonable nick, as they are old now and not expensive to replace. Does the roof clamp shut properly when you refit it: pushing it from the inside, does it move up and down at all?
Looking at the top of the rear hatch, is the seal tight all the way around? Use a piece of paper to check, it should be held firmly around the whole seal. Is the glass attached to the frame the whole way around? They are starting to come apart on a few cars, and that'll let water through.
I don't think the hatch is likely, though, if the wet is behind that long trim piece. The water will follow the body down, and come in through the pins, not at the top, or drip in to the boot. The only way for water to get in to that area from the hatch would be the four bolts that mount the hatch hinges to the shell: if these aren't obviously loose then I can't see significant leaks here.
That leaves the sunroof, so check all three elements of that and I'd bet it's one or more of them.
