Wet Passenger Side Front Carpet

Over the last two weeks, I've suddenly fallen victim to wet passenger side front carpets (05 Carrera S). Car has been parked slightly downhill and amount of water in the footwells has been particularly bad over this weekend.

I've cleaned the drain holes under the bonnet and dried the carpets out but they've just got wet again.

I had this problem with my previous Gen 1 Boxsters which was traced to the well known door membranes.

Is this also a 997 Gen 1 problem? Has anyone else suffered on the same way?

Any replies greatfully received before the car goes off to Dick Lovett.

Looking through the warranty thread (which as a non member you can't see- sorry!) there has been a reported membrane failure at 27k miles on one car. Not a widespread problem by the look of it though.

I drive a 997 C2S from 2004 and had both membranes replaced this year in March at a cost of around £630, as moisture build up in car continued into a water problem with the carpet socking up the lot.

Most annoying of all is that this problem is known at Porsche and that they replaced membranes free of charge when it was within a reasonable period of time (..2 years beyond warranty). Just made me realize that Porsche does not give a damn about their customers and the communication with them even when problems are acknowledged.

To quote GreigM froma recent thread in the Scotland regional forum..

9*7 cars don't have a door membrane but a sold plastic "firewall" (or waterwall) - this had a number of plugs/fasteners which if you've had any work on the doors (speaker install, lock changes etc) then the technicians frequently "forget" to replace - which lets the water through.

You could strip the door and see if there are any obvious missing fittings....possibly only a few quid in parts - an hour of labour with a good technician or an afternoons DIY.

Are you sure you have cleared all the drains ? - there used to be one under the battery on the 9*6 cars, i'd assume the 9*7s are similar.

Also check the pollen filter, maybe the seal is damaged in that area.

If the water is sweet tasting then you may have a failed heater matrix, check your coolant level too.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check under the battery. No work has been done on the doors and the water is fresh. Going to Bristol Service Clinic so will ask them.
