Has anyone got/had hands on experience of the two shifters mentioned in my post? Just thinking of a wish list but could do with more information from an end user of one of these products. Thanks.

Thanks for that. I do subscribe to Impact Bumpers ans shall take a look.

I have bitten the bullet and purchased a Wevo 915 short shift shifter. You dont get a lot for your money so I am hoping that it lives up to its hype. Have as yet not fitted the item as I need a bit of time to do the job right.

My intention is to spray the shift housing in satin black. I have not decided whether I am going to delete the centre console as the radio fader will be to re-site but where is the question. The photo below gave me some good information. The one below this gives a good idea as to what to do with air con controls if you have those in the car. It also gives you a good idea as to what your vehicle could look like with the centre console removed.

Hi

I have recently been able to try a couple of different types and my findings were (I stress this is only my impressions and I can't guarantee how well each kit had been set up):

They increased the force required to select gear (one only marginally the other more pronounced)

They both highlighted wear and tear in the linkage (making it more notchy)

Neither actually speeded up the time to change gear as the actual limit appeared to be within the box itself (in fact the notch one was worse)

It did make the leaver easier to reach - although a racer told me the best solution was to 'bend' the existing lever to tailer it to a particular driver to make it fall to hand easier.

Given my experience I haven't bothered to carry out this modification - but I have improved the shifts immensely by simply servicing the existing linkage connections and adjustments.

Interested to hear other views though.

Thanks for your reply Nick I have however bitten the bullet and bought a Wevo shifter. I have fitted the shifter but as yet not really tried out. The shorter throw of the gear selection is a lot better and feels more precise. Time will tell. I would include an image but I seem unable to do so the finished article looks similar to the top photo which I have attached.

I have the WEVO G50 short shift fitted, its an expensive piece of kit, but its quality and much improved and shortened the throw

Here are photos of Ray's installation (click on thumbnails):

The attached photo's are of the finished installation of the Wevo short shifter. I purchased a second rubber boot which I cut down to smarten the appearance in the centre console. It is my intension to remove the centre console in time but firstly I need to relocate the radio fader switch. A more modern but retro looking stereo system would be a good addition also.
