Whale Tail removal & User Manual

Hi

I have a 1989 911 carrera 3.2 cab and have two queries in this regard.

1. I would like to remove the whale tail from the car to give it a smoother look and was querying whether anyone has done this before and what this might involve? Can you reuse the original engine cover?
2. Does anyone have an electronic of a user manual for this car?

Cheers

Ian

Ian

I have an original hard copy user manual in very good condition ( not a reprint ).

If interested please e mail me direct.

You can remove the whale tail but i believe that the mounting holes for the spoiler will show. Best bet is to get second hand engine lid from non spoiler car. Try Douglas Valley , Porsche Apart or post wanted on forum here and suggest impactbumpers.com

Geoff is right, it would be easier to find a second flat lid from ebay or a dismantler pay to have it repainted to match your car. Then its just a case of unbolting the old one and swaping the wiper mech over. You could just remove the tale itself, but you would most likely need to repaint and fill the mounting holes. Whale tails still fetch good money so you do it for little outlay if you sell it on afterwards. I'd keep it for a rainy day though.

Smooth is the way to go on a cab

Even easier as there's no wiper to swap! Might make finding a flat lid slightly harder though, as will need to be cab specific (or the hole could be filled during the repaint)

Hi All

See a picture on the 3.2 reg section on the Web site. This is our Supersport. Although some say that the handling is compromised, I have not noticed this, but I do not drive at very high speeds. On a track day I still managed to put in what for me felt like some respectable times.

Have fun

I would have though having the holes filled and painted would be an easier job than sourcing a cab flat lid.

Many cars have had badges removed and the holes filled and painted, should be a simple job.

At least if you source another cover you can always revert your car back to stock very easily. When selling your car this may help alot as most buyers don't like mods.

Hi
You could repalce the rear whale tail with a carbon firbre item, bin the rear wiper and save 12kgs in weight in the right part of the car.
I have just done this. it looks standard but is a two part whale tail that uses the standard seal between the engine lid and the spoiler. the rubber spolier part is now all in one with the reat of the whale tail.
i will post a picture if people wish.
Kind regards
