What a 24 hours!!!

Last night my mini conked out so after an hour in the rain i gave up and phoned recovery.

This moring went out, started the 993 to warm it up, had a coffee, went out side and bugger it had locked itself and was still running.

The annoying thing was i was going to Porsche Cambridge to pick up a spare Key.

I managed to cut the drivers front quarter seal and open the glass and put a wire in and get the keys out but what a nightmare.

Has anyone had this problem and should the car lock when it is not moving and no one in there.

Also does anybody have a front quarter glass seal lying about and who knows how this fits, does the door frame need to lift off with the small allen bolts in the door to allow this to go in?

Any help grateful.

When i have cleaned the car i will post some pictures.

by the way a new key from porsche £51 for the metal bit and £20 for the head. Is that good value? Cheaper than a new seal i hear you cry.

Not much help with spare parts etc but suggest you:-

-Go to bed and stay there for next 24hrs[:D]

-Ask PC Cambridge to send spare key

Are you sure it was not already locked when you got out after starting it? - How is you driver's-door-open detector swtich?

What several of us have seen is this:
-Lock car with centre console switch while in car
-Open door and get out
-Close door
-It's locked and you can't get back in[]

Cause is the elecrtical switch that detects driver's door is opening. Normally it detects it is opening and unlocks the door.

If the door is locked the door can still be opened with the inside handle even if the switch has failed and the door stays "locked" (so when you close door you are locked out).

If not that I have no idea...

Hi Elliot, not the best start to 993 ownership after all that searching for the right car. As Mark indicates there have been a few issues with central locking.

Price for genuine parts did not seem to bad, did this include your PCGB discount.

Hi there,

I got a new key from Porsche Edinburgh in July this year, £35 total.

That was the one with the crest & light on the head.

Cheers, I[;)]

New key ordered today from certain large porsche dealer for £29 including blank and crested head with torch.

Porsche quoted £22 for front seal but £167 for fitting. No thanks.

Looks like next weekend i am going to learn how to fit a seal and window.

Driven the car four days on the trot and its great.

I've had the above. Luckily I was at home with a spare key available. I can also confirm that my driver door switch functions intermittently, so likely to be the same cause as above.
