What are the torque/power ratings of the various 924 boxes?

Wondered if anyone knows these or what they can roughly handle? I'm mating a 924 box and tube out of a standard 2.0 8v to a vauxhall 2.0 16v engine running 180bhp 160lbft torque and wondered how long I can expect it to cope. I will be upgrading my engine to turbo spec in the future and wondered what box is best to handle 300bhp & 350lbft.

Thanks.

Think you may be pushing the limits - the 170bhp Turbo has larger torque tube shaft, up to 25mm I think, and the box was changed too, for the one found in the later 924 Turbos and the 944 including the Turbos at upto 250bhp.
Most of the uprated 944 turbos seem to run standard boxes, so whilst changing your engines, I'd swap the tube and box too for 944 stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

Interestingly the std 924 shaft is the same as what is fitted to the gearbox that goes with the vauxhall engine I'm fitting.

If you can get the getrag box for the 924 with the m474 sportpack you will be getting the dog leg box with its inherent strengths and weaknesses. it might be pushing the 20 mm input shaft to take a huge increase in torque, but Porsche usually over engineer for reliability so the 20mm may well give you the reliability only time will tell. For racing, the dog leg box is usually preferred due to the position of the gear cluster. On the Audi derived box (and incidentally the 924 turbo box is not the same as the 944) the gear sets are aft of the axle line giving an oversteering polar moment, whereas the gear sets on the getrag box, be it 924 or 924 t urbo, are ahead of the axle line putting the polar moment in between the axles.

^^^ Usefull info that thanks. All very new to the 924 game. What on earth made me think to use it on the nova I don't know! The current box & tube I have a free so going to give them a go (be silly not to!). I don't suppose anyone has a photo of a dog leg box and tube so I can get an idea how the layout differs? That way I can alow for it when I put the floor back in! lol

Sorry I've no idea about the different 924 boxes.
Although the 20mm shaft may be similar in diameter the vauxhall is not driving a shaft 4-5 feet long! Its this that may cause any problem.
