What avg coolant temp does your engine run at ?

Hi

I am a bit concerned that there may be a fault in my coolant system and I do not want my engine damaged.

Usually in normal driving the temperature gauge points straight up- through the zero of the 80 mark on the temp gauge. But in heavy traffic this climbs just past the right of the zero (pic attached) and then returns after a while to straight up or slightly to the right. Is this normal ? Could there be fan fault or something ? Please let me know if this is normal.

Cheers

That sounds reasonably normal to me from memory. Do you hear the fan cut in when it rises?

I will be driving mine tomorrow and will be queuing for long periods no doubt so will check my own and report back.

Sitting in traffic, mine rises just a smidge over the 80 mark. Maybe your rads need clearing out?

Today in heavy traffic my needle was sitting pretty much between the 8 and the 0 digits and didn't really budge. So I'd say that is my normal position. As suggested could be worth checking your rads.
