What can I expect for my money?

I am now looking for my first Porsche, I have got up to £20k to spend and although I have done a bit of reading around the internet I am not totally sure I know what a good buy is. Last week I looked at a 98 S reg 2.5 in guards red showing 25k with FPSH, trader working from home had it for sale for £21,500. After discussion he said he would accept £20,500. I'm waiting for the funds to clear so have told him not to wait for me and keep it on sale. This week he has the same car at £19,995.

The HPI check is fine, and I have confirmed the service history with Porsche.

What is the porsche market like for 2.5's? - I have to say that this is plenty fast enough for me and the insurance is excellent.

You can expect to be the proud owner of one of the greatest sports cars in the world and definitely one of Porsche best efforts straight out of the box in all the important key areas ie value for money, build quality, driving experience and pride of ownership [8D]

Sounds like it's about right on the money - if the history is all tight then get an independent inspection on it to make sure that it hasn't been off the road and in perfect mechanical order. 25k isn't even run in so it should be like new.

From the photo, it looks like it has 16" alloys which are always deemed less desireable than the 17" ones. If it has no got either climate control or wind deflector then you should lean on the trader to knock a bit more off as there are very desireable extras.

Having said that, an "S" plate car with just 25k on the clock and FPSH is a rare thing indeed so if it all checks out you could be holding the keys to something very special indeed very soon. And look! It's spring, the sun is (almost) out and I can see a country pub, weekends in France, a trip to Le Mans, drives into the country just for the sake of it, smirking a *** Z3 drivers.... :)

That price does look very good! and 25k on a Boxster is nothing!

Have you got any more info on the full spec, i.e. leather, climate control etc?

Hi ya,
Best thing that I did is go on tAutotrader online at www.autotrader.co.uk. You will get a very good idea to whats selling for what!

Peter more like you get a good idea of what's being asked, definitely not what is selling. :ROFLMAO:

I bought my guards red 1998 2.5 boxster 15 months ago.

Mine had 38K on the clock, with new 18" GT3 alloys, Sport Design Package, Climate, Sports Leather, Traction, Wind deflecter Etc.(high spec car)

I paid £22k for it, and have never had so much fun and pleasure from a car.

The advice above is good about the autotrader, i always use that site to get a feeling of prices.

PLEASE bear in mind that, there are a lot of rough abused cars out there and some real gems. I looked at over 10 cars before buying mine. I think spec. is very important for future resale and current value. A 1998 car with only basic spec. is worth about £19000, but a good spec. car on the same year could fetch £21000 so you price could be spot on.

The car that you looked at sounds superb, GO ON BUY IT YOU WON'T LOOK BACK!!

I've now got all my finances in order (Sold the BMW etc) and can I find a decent boxster? By decent I mean sub 38k miles with FPSH and no more than 2 previous owners, I've missed 3 (including the one above) due to not being able to sell my old car. Traders all want too much and others in my budget are all seem to carry 60,000 miles plus.

If anybody knows of a decent Boxster going for sub £21k, on an S plate or better then can you let me know.

darenthompson@hotmail.com or 07973 841662 (Preferably around the Midlands but I will travel for the right car).

Dave have you asked this question on boXa.net forum? quite a lot a very good boxsters are sold via this forum without ever being advertised else where.

its a forum that specialises in the Porsche Boxster so is a little busier than this forum.

Looks like yesterday was my lucky day, thought I'd missed the boxster that I started this thread with but I gave the guy a ring anyway, he still had it, seems people he'd had plenty of calls but nobody serious enough to buy. After a bit of negotiating I've got it for £19k, not bad considering he first wanted £21.5!!

I've got it booked in at the Porsche shop (www.porscheshop.co.uk) for a full inspection next saturday (Bargain at £75, that for one hour in the shop and half an hour road test with a full written report). Assuming it checks out as I expect I take ownership of my first porsche in 6 days......... How excited am I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
