What colour calipers?

Easy question, it's a 944 lux in guards red. Looking to paint the brake calipers another colour other than slightly rusty steel, should I have red or black calipers viewable through my d90s?

Had a Misano Red Audi A3 before and painted the calipers red but not sure what would look best on the 944 so looking for opinions. Will probably add Porsche decals in white too.

Tempted for a smart and stealthy black finish but would prefer to see some pics of others if possible, thanks.

Yellow looks good or Red. Mine is a white car & currently has yellow ones & the replacement callipers will be red.
A mate wimped out of interesting colours & chose metallic black.

The standard ATE cast calipers dont really suit being painted. No matter what colour you choose youll end up with something that looks spammed-up....

It does kind of advertise you have the least desirable brakes fitted to a 944.

If it is just a case of you want to tidy them up, I would go for matt black.

Painting skills not doubted. My point is that irrespective of the your painting skills, painted ATE calipers will always look 'wrong'. Im not sure that Id agree about their inferiority though: theyre superb and were more than adequate to stop 300bhp 911s and 928s...

Haha don't worry! I've only really noticed them since changing the teledials to d90s and just wanted to give them a tidy up rather than make a statement out of them. Just been and had another look at them, think I'll go for black and not bother with the decals.

Be different. How about an almond green or pale blue?

Oli.

That would be the way I would go.

Its not OTT.

It just draws the eye visually, gives that certain something.

Pick a coulour YOU like and go for it.

It would be a shame if we all just followed the heard as it were.

Having said that red or Black looks good .... but!! be brave.... after all you can always repaint them!

I had mine blasted and powder coated in Red, the look really nice.. |Going on my beetle

I've just done my calipers as part of a complete brake overhaul on my 944. I personally felt that the single pot calipers (although perfectly adequate for the job) werent the sexiest looking calipers in the world - especially when compared to the alloy 4 pots on the S2 and 968. So, I decided to make mine look as 'factory fresh' as possible.

I figured that when new these cars would have had a zinc passivate coating (silvery/gold) on the calipers {someone will probably correct me now} so I opted for silver caliper paint. I used the E-Tech kit form here;

I'm sure that the quality of the results rely more upon the cleaning than on the painting! I have used the black kit on my last car (a mercedes clk) and found it to really wear well! after two years there was no sighn of rust breaking through on it. I have used MHW 2-part caliper paint before (paint + hardener) and apart from being megga expensive it did not last as well.

As for colour choice - I was stuck for a while between silver & black. But, that's my personal choice. Other colours would work well - like red or yellow on a Porsche. Whatever colour you choose my advice would be to clean, clean, clean before painting.

Yup. As with anything to do with paint it's the preparation that takes all the time and determines the final result. You can be the best painter in the world, but if you haven't cleaned and keyed the surface properly then you'll only do an average job.

Mine are blue but need redoing!
I'll do them the same colour, I think it shows they are there behind the Cookies.

Ive got a new set in my garage. Its a shame that the silver plated finish doesnt stay on...

Are you confirming that they definately are silver when new?
