From a purely personal point of view, evening meetings are no good to us. My hubby rarely gets home before 7pm and the last thing he wants to do is drive for the best part of an hour to a golf club, listen to a talk, kick tyres and drive another hour home. Sunday lunchtime/afternoon meets would work far better for us, I don't know if anyone else feels the same? Obviously not suggesting that EVERY meet should be at a weekend as the weekday evening meets have worked for many years, but maybe once a quarter you could accommodate the members who struggle with evenings?

I think you are getting confused which Region you are a member of, which is actually R18 - Lancashire & Cumbria, not North West.

NW Region meet at The Deanwater Hotel, Woodford, Cheshire. Lancs & Cumbria meet at Garstang Golf Club at 20.00 hours and usualy have around 30-40 members attending.

R18 have many events on a Sunday and I look forward to you joining us at one of them in 2013. You will be receiving a 2013 events calendar in the near future, which covers monthly, weekend, and weekends away events right up to December.

In addition I am putting a R18 members on-line survey together on Survey Monkey so I would appreciate your input regarding events.

We actually have several members from the Southport/ Formby area who regularly attend meetings at Garstang GC and weekend events.

Regards

Hi Stuart

I would like a Sunday outing that had a motorsport or automotive theme. I don't mean a track day for driving as the club caters for that. However, it would be interesting to visit an automotive event or institution or museum with like-minded enthusiasts. I guess the trouble is that a lot of such places are way down south.

Regards

Cecil

thanks Cecil,

the regional event this year is more than likely going to be held alongside the Gold Cup at Oulton Park, we are still in negotiation with Oulton Park at the moment and finalising the details but it looks like it is going to be a massive attraction.

The items being discussed are 911 50th anniversary display and parade laps on the circuit, 60th anniversary of the Gold Cup with all teh attractions that that brings, dedicated Porsche Club area on the 'top field', a number of free tickets for Porsches that will be attending with the club, marquee for a chronological display of 911s.
Of course this will include access to the paddock as is normal with the Gold Cup, and of course the racing.

The 911 911s at Silverstone do you know if helmets are required for that? Sorry been looking all over the forum and can't find anything about it.

As for the other questions, I think this forum engine is outdated, it's not compatible with iPad, iPhone etc. so would like to see it updated to one of the better engines seen on other forums.
I don't attend the meetings because they seem to be like minded people gathering to do other things rather than to do with cars, or motorsport etc. (skittles evening etc) seems a little old fashioned. I'm also put off because whenever I see photos in the magazine, seems to be middle aged men with wives sitting at dinner tables, not my scene at all.

Regarding Silverstone, helmets are never required on parade laps. They're not needed especially since you will be crawling round most of the circuit.

Regarding the forum format, changing it for the few who insist on only using phones and tablets causes it to be a mess for those using PCs. Take a look at Boxa.net on a laptop and you'll see what I mean.

Regarding the rest of the post...so you want all of the membership to be like yourself? Not very helpful or constructive is it?

I use Boxa.net on both computer and tablet, it's been fine up until recently, they updated the engine to a newer version but it worked before on both anyway so the change wasn't to accommodate tablets. Also I never said anyting about 'only ever' using it with my tablet, I have a variety of IT equipment but I'd like to be able to use the forum on all of them. Not updating is not a smart way to run a club, even if you are happy with the current status quo.

I don't want it to be just like me, what I'm saying is that the things the club seems to organise are not my cup of tea and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I'm a member of this club because of my passion for cars, Porsche in particular, not because I like non car related activities. As for the rest of your response, it's obvious you are not open to any criticism even if its constructive, so it seems you don't like my comments because you like the club the way it is; so it seems it's all about you. Or maybe you are just a keen skittle player?

Not sure where you're coming from isysman? I don't know what Region you're thinking of, but in the last ten years I cannot recall R5 ever going to play skittles??
We have done drive outs into Wales, workshop meets at various independents as well as the local OPC's. Had guest speakers to talk about Regularity rallies, Track & Race preparation, arranged weekends away (including a trip to the Nurburgring) meet ups at Oulton Park etc etc
We have an annual 'festive meal', and yes, most months before the club meeting, some people have food in the restaurant at the Deanwater. I'm glad to say, my wife also enjoys good food, great company and car chat with other like minded friends.
BTW - I suggest you check the settings on your iPad, because mine works fine as proven as I'm writing this!

Ha ha! Nope not a skittle player. If you bothered to do some research before having a go at people you'd realize that the events and gatherings I participate in and often help organize are almost exclusively motorsport related. While some club events are not my cup of tea either, I don't see it being very constructive to have a pop at those events or the members that enjoy them.

Hello I'm a new member and always read these messages for the NW area and I'm waiting to decide when I should show my face at a few activities. I only joined in late December (after buying the car in September) and with the weather being terrible, the most I contribute is the odd comment on the forum. I can understand about the O.S system being slightly out of date but it seems to do the job. I've been a member of the Supra club (had ago at importing direct from Japan after seeing TV shows on it ** Don't ask**) and it seems very similar.

The only thing I feel the forum lacks is a better 'Spotted' section. I saw a lovely 911 4S parked near my business yesterday for example. I found that with the other Forums it was an easy way to get chatting to like minded local owners and helped improve and increase numbers at regular meets. Its also quite good fun when someone else spots you out and about and so on and so on.

As for events, I can't comment as of yet but I am booked on at the Silverstone Classic this year and hoping to do a few local events as well. The R5 region seems to be very well catered for and I am impressed by the Mag, Forum and other info provided.

Thanks Again,
Chris

The thread asked for feedback, I gave feedback. I wasn't 'having a go' at anyone. You are a very narrow minded person, the club suits you so you are not interested in anyone's opinion, that's very plain to see. I'm not interested in anything more you have to say.
