What do you guys think?

Hi All,

Well I've had the odd thought this summer of swapping the C2 for one a few years newer with much less mileage and a few extras, or perhaps even stretch to a C4S.

The thing is I am in two minds, I love my C2 - I don't want any more performance, I'm beyond boy racing and 300hp is plenty to get around with - especially seeing as my 996.1 is pretty light anyway. Zenith is one of my all time Fav colours - it's above most for me. I love the look of it, it's in great condition. It's got every receipt since new, and I've taken real good care of it inside, outside and underneath since owning it. I do know pretty much every inch of it! (and they do say better the devil you know!).

The downsides? Well I suppose it's now sat at 113k [&:] and it's a 1999 - a bit newer wouldn't go amiss.

No doubt with this mileage in the distant future it may need some engine work, but then I could buy one with 60k have it inspected and tomorrow something goes bang, who knows!?

If I keep her, I will likely get the wheels refurbed to get rid of the anoying little nicks, and may get a new rear spoiler, as well as a few pin dents taking out that I have been meaning to get around to. I might upgrade the sound system etc as well to the premium upgrade as well as a few other little bits.

I'm not sure if it would be worth trading her in, and putting 10k on top to get a newer motor, or whether to just keep her and carry on loving her with a view to just replace anything that needs doing as and when it arises. I suppose one major factor is anything I spend on her now will not increase the value, so is it worth investing short-term in another one?

I hadn't really considered swapping her all that much, but I saw a nice 996.2 in a local garage the other day and it just got me thinking about it again and looking around on the net to see what was about. When I had a look at the other one though, and I walked back to mine all gleaming in the sun, I still wondered if there was any point.


Thoughts??

Oh and I have attached a recent pic, yes I put the spoiler up as i'd just cleaned the rear blind and was taking pictures of everything :)....

It's a personal thing but the 10k you put in the car now will be gone in depreciation over the next 4 yrs and you may still have the repair bills on a car you don't know. That said if you wanted a turbo for extra power then the 10g is probably safe. Buying what u already have is utterly pointless in my opinion.
996 turbos offer fantastic value for money these days
 
Hah Newer,

I want to go the other way!.

I keep dreaming about a nice 964.
Maybe sell one of my other cars or trade the 996.

I love the low back of the 964.

There is a lovely red 964 c2 in N Ireland for sale on Ph at mo and gret value at 13,500. Id have that over the 996 everyday especially if you didnt have to use it as a daily driver and its done less miles than this 996 we're talking about. At that price its depreciation proof.
If i didnt already own 2 weekend cars id have it
 
It all depends on what you need of course, but I wouldn't call anything less than a 997 S an "upgrade", the changes are so minor that it's a waste of money. Of course a standard 997 will be newer and improved but performance vice there's very little between them.

What made me buy a 996.1 is of course the price, but what I really like about it is that there's no electronic 'nanny'. [;)]
 
Thanks for the replies guys, so far it sounds like spending the extra money and changing isn't making a lot of sense then.
 
I have been in the same thought process of getting something newer, was very keen on a 997, but then thought that I will be hit by depreciation again. I think you can spend 10k and get something with less miles, newer spec but it doesn't mean it's going to be a better car. For now I'm sticking to my 98 C4 which I have done the usual wear and tear items on, and am tempted by making it sit a bit lower and that should do me for a good few more years all being well.

In similar situation with my 2000 model C2 that I've had for 4.5 years now. Thought a lot about a 997C2S (available from 26k-ish now), but they'll also drop down to 12k-15k in 4 years, so a lot of money for little gain, performance wise. Have now decided to keep mine and save up for a 7gt3.
 
Still contemplating whether to change my 98' zenith C2 to a 996 turbo. Trouble is depreciation has hit hard on the 996 C2 even though we look after it doing every niggly job....you know rads, discs, silencers, expansion tank and the temperamental alarm electrics.
As well as paying the extra money, the colour i like is yellow for the turbo. Only thing is will i get bored with this colour. What to do?

Not that I am biased of course, but I have owned Porsche's for over 20 years and this car I now own has had more compliments from Porsche owners and non Porsche owners than all the rest combined. They all love the colour and I do too. I will never get bored with it. Ask anyone else with a Speed Yellow car!

No point being a shrinking violet with a run of the mill dull colours when you own a 911.

You know it makes sense!
