I like the colour and interior but not the 19s.
Price - bit steep for a cat d?

2 Doors, Manual, Coupe, Petrol, 66,750 miles, Black. Manual, Red leather, Graphite 19" alloys, Trip computer, Air conditioning, Full service, new disc's all round. This vehical was categorized 'CAT D' by an insurance company due to rear end damage now repaired with great attention to detail. taxed & mot'd. Fantasic looking car. No offers priced to sell. No time waisters please. £18,500

-------------------

Priced to sell - well I don't think it will be finding a new owner for quite some time![;)]

I think I read somewhere that, generally speaking, CAT D prices are around 2/3 of the equivalent non-CAT D. So about 2/3 of £22000 if it is immaculate - £15000? I hate the wheels - they would have to go - at a cost of £1000 to exchange for genuine 18"?

And it will always be a CAT D, and difficult to sell at any price, as it is such a limited market. If you can put up with that, it would be a decent buy at £13-14000 if it checks out otherwise.

When its been hit up the 'ice cream' no thanks - would sooner save have PPI on a car I fancied and then drive off with some peace of mind.

That's what I mean John - it is a very limited market. I wouldn't buy one either, but a few people do, and "save" themselves some money.

It worries me when i see...............no timewaisters

I could add the wheels and the red interior

as for Cat D why bother there are so many good ones around this will always be Cat D, a pig to move on if you can,it is not as if this is the last word in 996 turbos

But do they Save themselves some money? [&:]

I think it is more about being able to buy a car they normally wouldn't be able to afford. You can see the logic in getting a 2002 Turbo for 2000 C2 money. I still wouldn't do it myself, but I can understand why people do. If you haven't got the budget for a 'good one' then it isn't an option.

The price is about 25% of an equivalent undamaged one. You really need to see pictures of the damage and ideally the insurance report. Then if you are reasonably happy get the car inspected by a Porsche specialist. This will all take time and therefore dont understand the "no timewasters" comment!

Cat D is the lowest of the four categories of write off. However, it still means that the cost of repair was close to the market value at the time of the accident, hence it was economic to repair.

I know about these things because our Land Rover slid on black ice last week and was a cat D write off. I chose to keep it as the damage was cosmetic and it's a Land Rover so I expect I will be able to sell it in the future and cover my costs. Cost to me was 35% of the payout value.
