What does your oil gauge say?

Checking my oil according to the manual it all looks ok, however my oil level gauge says "empty"....

What does yours say?

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but did you make sure you got the oil temperature high enough (about the 1/4 mark, or 20 minutes or so brisk drive) for the level gauge to work?

Cheers/John

Could be a faulty gauge but they usually fail by showing full all the time. As others have said the oil needs to be hot and at idle a while before showing but I am sure you know this.

The mechanism inside the tank is a real piece of engineering art and quite easy to replace. Did mine about 3 years ago and cost cica £45.00.

What John said... needs to be up to normal running temperature, on level ground(!) and running when you check it - plus ESSENTIAL TO FIRST CHECK THE OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. This will give you the best indication of what's in there[:)]. If it's as low as the gauge indicates, very slowly and carefully top up whilst engine still running (assuming you know where to do this) and watch as the gauge gradually limps it's way up a bit. DON'T put loads in and just wait, do it gradually, carefully watching the gauge reacting, to make sure you don't overfill it (easy done). When it's reached at least half way on the gauge, there's enough in there. The essential thing is to do it carefully.[;)]

Of course, if the oil level on the dipstick is up to the right level and it's not showing on the gauge, your gauge could be faulty after all - it does happen... then get it checked out[:)].

Lali my warning light kept coming on despite the level being bang on correct. Its fine now so I guess must have been an odd wiring fault. Same with my pad warning light, my brother removed the wiring when building the car but must have left part of it shorting somewhere I imagine.
