What exhaust is fitted to your 996?

Porsche factory fit sports exhaust (on a 2002MY Carrera 2). It sounds fantastic. However, it's not switchable and pumps out 103db at 5000rpm so limits somewhat the track days I can attend. It was on the car when I bought it being part of the original spec, but if I had a choice I'd get the switchable version (although I'm not sure whether or not the valve would open automatically by the time you got to 5000rpm anyway so it might defeat the object of having it switchable). Anyway, if you don't do track days no worries just a big grin.
Default mode is loud, so you can switch it to quiet for track days. You could always get the switch and controls retrofitted (About £160 for the parts) but it takes quite a while (probably 2-3 hours) to wire it all up.

Standard?
Aftermarket? if so what brand, how does it sound and perform? Recommended?
I had the Oettle-style bypass pipes on my exhausts, and it sounded great. You can get a pair of silencers with the pipes fitted for about £400 on eBay (search: Porsche sport sound) but you will have the same problem as Paul with track days.

One way of making it quiet all the time might be to disable the speed signal to the relay. This is most probably a grey/pink wire. Alternatively, you could bypass the electric switchover valve with a piece of tube, so that the actuator flaps on the exhaust have vacuum all the time.
I have the retrofitting instructions for the Mk1 PSE - email me if you would like the details. It shows the position of the switch-over valve, which looks easy to get at.

You can get a kit to retrofit the switch to the pre facelift pse's here at Carnewal...

Alternatively, if you need it quiet for a trackday and your arms are skinny enough, it possible to make a loop from a cable tie and put it over the arm that closes the valves on each muffler. I did this on mine a few times before I fitted the switch.

Factory fitted PSE on my '54' C4S cab with a doctored speed relay so I don't lose the sound at any revs

Yep, probably the most simple of modifications I have ever done with an immediate smile factor.

I never did it ,a guy at Northway did. If I had attempted it I would have cut the wrong diode haha

Just had a Switchable sports exhaust fitted. I find it annoying that it goes quiet at 28-MPH i have the switch for that! How do i doctor the relay?[]
Alternatively, just pull the grey/pink wire (speed signal) off the relay connector.
