What/How to check for fault switch ...

Ola,
Do I get my car back form teh bodyshop and all is well. The roof (it's a cabby) is up and down and all tested before leaving the shop.
Then all yesterday the roof switch does nothing. Roof won't budge. (at least it was not fully down when it did this).
So, is this a "bring to the garage" job or is there a fuse I can check. There is no mechanical reason for it to be busted so I'm assuming it's electrical.
Kev.

Starting with the obvious, you do have the ignition switch in the right place I take it?

[8D] No problem starting with the obvious. It's only logical.
Yes, the ignotion is in position 1 and the immobiliser is off. I've had the car since 2003 and it was never a problem.
Around the middle of 2004 it did this for a day ro two but then was fine. It's only gone a bit mad again since yesterday. Usually if I went for a bit of a drive it worked again. Last night I went for a good drive and nothing.
I thought that maybe it was smart enough to figure out that it would need 'x' amount of battery power to put the roof down and also back up and it didn't have it, but teh battery is around the 14v mark.
I know the fuse box is just like a miniture city so I was looking for advise before seeing if something was blown which I can fix.

They will use the last milliwatt of battery power on the hood if you let them - not clever in any way, though they do have a speed sensor as I once coasted downhill (off road, genuinely) putting the hood up and it stopped when I rolled too fast.

Next thing I'd check is the fuse (they are labelled in the lid, albeit maybe in German) then the switch. There will be a relay or two but they might be difficult to check unless you have a known good one to swap with. Other things to check are microswitches but I never had a problem with mine so I don't know where they are. Maybe check the workshop manual?
