What is concours?

Dean,

I think the answer to that is how well your car will do in a Concours competition. Within PCGB there are two very distinct classes of Concours - the Street Concours competitions, which are more of a show up and shine variety and there are the fanatical Concours d'Elegance competitions where cars are often trailered to the event for fear of getting them dirty!!

If you are interested in taking part in either the solution is to prepare your car as well as you feel necessary - and enter the competition. You will learn how good (or bad) your preparation is when the judging gets going.

I've found that the Regional competions (which are usually of the "Street" variety) vary hugely in the judging criteria and, of course, in the rivals you will be up against. It's good fun - but not too serious.

The Concours d'Elegance competitions are another story altogether. Some owners go to extreme lengths to prepare the car - which usually must be in standard trim - since points are awarded on a variety of counts ranging through cleanliness and originality.

In many of the competitions the mileage of the car counts for quite a lot - so only having 23,000 miles on the clock can often put you at a disadvantage compared to a car which has 123,000 on the speedo. Not all Street competitions add weighting for mileage so it depends where you show the car. Also, some regions only allow Region Members to participate, often relegating visitors to a specific "Visitors" Class.

If you are proud of your car it's great fun to compete against similarly minded individuals. Give it a try.

Regards

Dave

Dean, we were all new boys once.
Over the years I have won 16 awards for my 964 at many and various events.
Dave has just won his first 2 major awards, so congratulations to him.

So Dean........... Don't be shy. give it a try!
Best wishes,

Don't do it - there is nothing more ludicrous than the sight of a man cleaning the back of his wheels with a toothbrush......

Don't be ridiculous. []

The pros don't use a toothbrush - they use cotton buds [;)]

The car should be as it was when it was produced at the factory. However if you took a brand new car straight from the factory on a covered trailer and unloaded it at the concours it probably wouldn't win as the judges would find something wrong with it! Clean the car by all means but use it how is was supposed to be used.
Cheers

NO NO NO NO NO NO

It is a car. It goes from A to B. It gets dirty. You wash it. It goes from A to B. You wash it. etc etc

Real men don't even know what a cotton bud is[8|]

One of the funniest / saddest things I saw was a guy with a red 911 Targa covering the car with cling film prior to loading it on a trailer for it's journey home from last years festival at Brands....
Get a life!!!!

I cover my Wife in clingfilm on a Saturday night [:)] Anyone got a trailer.
I do fancy entering, maybe next year when my Wife has given birth to the twins (we already have one !) I'll be looking for an excuse to get out of the house.

always remember that a 'concours' would be the car competition, and a 'concourse' would be something you would find in the front part of an airport or a train station.......

Please drive your car - that's why it was built and why it has a steering wheel and a great engine.

That's what I intend to do. It's funny, I've dreamt of a 964 ever since I saw one when I left school. I have the money to buy a new one now but still went for a 1990 model. What do you think regarding depreciation? Will it lose value if it's looked after?
