Just wondered what essentials there may be ?

1. GB sticker
2. Red Triangle
3. High vis vest
4. Medical kit
5. Spare bulb kit
6. Medical / Travel insurance and NI Number ?
7. Headlamp beam adjusters ?

Ignoring the obvious Passport, Euros, Sterling, Credit Card (s), Map ....

Which are essential ?

EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)? Though your med insurance may cover everything...or it may not.

Breakdown cover?

Interestingly when we were over in France last year there were very few brit cars displaying a GB sticker or plates.

A white piece of cloth with a red dot for your forehead when driving on the AUTOBAHN.....

....and some stuff for the aborigines like glass pearls, samll bottles of JÄGERMEISTER....

....a healthy thirst when you find German BEER.

...a European friend´s phone no., in case you get in trouble.
For GE try mine + 49 (0) 171 358 86 55 (cell) or +49 (0) 5241 68 76 50 (home).

Could be a good idea anyway to have some phone numbers when the register is travelling. Looks like a new sticky[:)]. Melv?

It's better than insurance - in a recent incident I had in Spain it was clear it was going to be a right hassle for the medics dealing with insurance, but my EHIC card dropped out of the same folder and woman actually said "That'll do nicely" and everything went very smoothly from then on...

Note that the high-viz jacket must be stored inside the car so you can put it on before you get out. And that's not a joke!

Slightly off-topic: What to people have in their "first aid kit"? I can't think of anything that would be useful (life saving) in between an accident and the time an ambulance might arrive (even in a rural location) - perhaps a tourniquet. So what is point of it?

The original from my car was missing when I got it.

V5 is a must.

Are spare petrol cans allowed on the Ferry ?

I am assuming that V power or min equivalents is available on circuit or close ?

Whilst there is a Shell garage five mins up the road, there is fuel available on site at a decent price.

Strictly, no cans allowed on ferry!

Would empty cans be allowed, to keep some spare at the track ?

I normally use a full tank down to the warning light plus 20 Litres on a full day at Oulton ... but Spa is sessioned.

Definitely take the European Health Insurance Card. You would be surprised to realize the standards of health care in Belgium (much better than their roads) and what the NHS has agreed to reimburse!

I don't have one of those, just health insurance and an NI number.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't get one in time for Spa .. and I travel much more widely than EU.

So hopefully the insurance route is a catch all

Hi,
In addition to what you have listed:
high viz vest for each occupant inside the car, 2 triangles, V5, Insurance Cert, MOT & driving licence.
headlights must either be adjusted (993 has this) and GB sticker or Euro number plate.
If your in Spain going through any tunnel you must have your headlights on otherwise its a nick!
Have a good one[:)]
