It seems 944s are now old enough that many people don't instantly recognise them as Porsches.
I gave one of the guys working for me a lift home this evening and as we came off a roundabout in Reading a couple of girls by the side of the road shouted "Nice Ferrari". Rob, sitting next to me, says "Ferrari, where?" looking all around. No Ferraris to be seen, it was simply that my car has pop-up headlamps and is therefore (apparently) a Ferrari. Last time this happened it was a pack of 10 year old kids in London admiring my "Lamborghini", which my girlfriend found enormously amusing.
