What is RMS

Hi all

I've just joined the forum and have recently bought a 2000 996 C2 Cab Tiptronic.

The car is my first Porsche and so far it's living up to all my expectations. Going through previous posts I've been a little a alarmed with references to Engine failures and RMS! What is the RMS? From what I can understand it has something to do with the Clutch. Since my car is a Tiptronic, is it still applicable to my car.

All advice greatly appreciated.

Regards

Rear Main oil Seal

When you have a week or two to spare, you'll find threads here and on the Boxster forum. Lower mileage cars tend to be affected most, and tiptronics are not immune.

Congrats on your buy, I'm sure you'll love it.

Don't get too freaked out by what you read on here about RMS problems, (Richard's right by the way, it would take a week at least to catch up), you've made the right buy with the Tiptronic from a RMS perspective, look at the last page of the 996 Engine failure thread for a brief comment on the Tiptronic issue from Nic D (I think)

Gary,

sorry no one has answered your query yet, but I hope they will soon. I personally cant shed any light on this problem, but I have seen you are listed as non member on the forum, so have just checked our server and now set you to "member status". so thats something.

The tiptronic is not immune. It is just they are not as popular as a manual transmission.
