OK, had the RS for a few weeks now. Car has been checked out by Jaz (wembley) and told all is well and that they all sound like that. Question, what is the noise, gearbox or diff? Sounds like a bit of wine and also a flutter type sound at higher speeds. I get asked and haven't a clue [&:]. be nice to answer correctly

Car also has a single mass flywheel I believe.

Thanks in advance

nigh on impossible to diagnose a noise on the internet from a short description.

you do get more noise from a single mass flywheel, the dual mass has a silica gel between the 2 seperate flywheels which absorbs a lot of sound. The single mass flywheel is noisier, but mainly at low speeds up to say 2000-2500rpm.....first off you get the coffe grinder lsd noise, then the 6 speed gears churn and once all have caught up it is quiet, other than vibration and slightly less absorbtion, there is no reason for the single mass flywheel to make any more noise at higher speeds at all.

thanks for the reply. It is mainly noisy at very low speeds, gears and also flywheel I guess. I wondered if it was the gears or the diff and if they all have noise. Does anyone else get a wine at low speeds?

That is the thing, loads of noise at low speed, never driven one that doesn't, even standard RS is noisy, but clubsport single mass flywheel fitment is far noisier, if Jaz have given it the all clear then nothing to worry about.

there will be quite a few RS at silverstone in July, compare noise with others then if you don't know any othe RS owners locally.

thanks, theonly other noise I get is a slight flutter type sound at high speeds, I think when i back off a bit. Ideally I need to catch up with another owner, So if anyone lives anywhere near SE9 let me know on 07860 888 880
thanks

Simply gear chatter at low revs when the torque pulses of the engine shake the unselected gears in the 'box. Not sure about an OPC, but a true Specialist would have put your mind at rest with ease...... [;)]

thanks for the replies. Would love to go to an OPC and be violated, car worked on by a YTS kid and then charged £100 hour [;)]
