What is your ideal spec for a 718 Cayman S?

It is now on the Porsche website configurator - http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/718/718-cayman-s/.

However; I am after your comments and advice please on the best spec. Bear in mind that the current plan is that mine will be;
1. Kept for 10 years
2. Will be PDK
3. Paid for in cash
4. I am not thinking of a 981 (ie, forget talk of 4 v 6 pot etc).

Otherwise, open to suggestions.

i will get in with the comment before anyone else : best spec for you is the one YOU want not what others want ! However i'll play along as i'm practically sold on one myself.

in no particular order of importance

1. Sports seats plus 2 way

2. PASM or sport chassis if offered

3. PTV

4. Sports exhaust (but only after trying it first)

5. Crests on head restraints (personal choice)

6. Seat heating

7. not sure on the amount of leather as i'd happily take the alcantara (as i can't tell the difference when sitting in clothed lol)

8.GT steering wheel

Actaully they probably are in order of importance

They don't do my choice of colour anymore and i'm not paying CTS. So probably yellow or black or agate. I'm probably going for the standard model rather than the S.

Thank you for your suggestions. Seeing your choices supports your opening comment on individual preferences. However, I wanted to see what others thought was important to make sure I'm not missing something, eg, PTV.

What benefit is Porsche Torque Vectoring? When you reply please bear in mind that my physics knowledge is O level standard.

It's more the fact that the slippy diff comes with this than anything else. I am less keen on the rest of it's antics. Put simply this should allow the car to be more neutral in cornering and allow the car to maintain a slide more readily. Without it the inner wheel in a corner will be doing a lot less , reducing traction. I'm happy for someone to corrwct me on this.

I forgot GT wheel in my spec too.

I'd say add chrono pack and PTV recalling that you have previously said it will be the S, I wonder how long before they release the GTS....

Interesting to note that the PDK Cayman S is nearly £2k cheaper than the equivalent Boxster S, so you have a few quid to play with.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the rear wiper unless you plan to be sitting in traffic a lot and I'd try the standard sports seats for fit before you lash out on the fully electric items. Is the reversing camera worth the extra over the front and rear beepers?

If you plan to track the car you might consider PTV/LSD, Sport Chrono and PASM sports suspension. I'd be inclined to try a Cayman with sports exhaust - though it's likely to be less noticeable than on the rag top - and you might be tempted by the non-standard 20" wheel designs.

The basic sound system is usually just that and I'd be inclined to spec the Sound Package Plus upgrade. I also reckon that the set-and-forget auto climate control is worth the extra.

If you want the flappy paddle-shift you need to specify the GT sport steering wheel. The £36 smoking package gives you a useful covered storage compartment in the front centre console instead of a hole which collects dust.

It's always good fun messing around with the configurator but at the end of the day budgetary considerations always hold sway. However, if you can afford it I'd say have everything you want as you'll only regret it later if you don't.

Having had two Caymans with different but good specs, I currently have the rear wiper but saw little need for one before, useful but not vital and it intrudes slightly in the rear boot. As Jeff says the standard sports seats are good unless you have particular difficulties with seats, maybe more than one driver, all seats can be difficult to tweak when the car has been to the OPC unless you have memory seats maybe...never had the feature and so can't say, I've had Bose in both my Caymans and with the PCM in my current car it is worth having, in the previous gen1 it wasn't so impressive but I had standard stereo! Not sure what shifters are available but choice is paddles or buttons the latter of which do have the advantage of changing up and down with either hand which is useful on the road and you are coming off a Tiptronic so your choice, I have paddles which I now get on with as the car was thus equipped but I also like the buttons.

Meantime have fun on the configurator!
