What jobs need doing on your car?

A previous post got me thinking about all the jobs which need doing on my car.
My current list is:

Respray front bumper (peeling laquer)
Apply a paint-shield type product to the front
Pull out small dents in bonnet and wing
Fit brake cooling ducts bought over a year ago
Fit and paint teardrop mirrors bought over a year ago
Replace rusty tinwork in engine bay
Replace worn and creased passenger floor carpet
Buy and fit genuine 17 inch cup 1 alloys with S02's.
Fit the larger 993 front brake callipers bought in July last year
Fit the recaro pole position seats bought last summer

Do you all have similar lists?

For me I have

Get front bumper resprayed, loads of track induced stone chips (not from gravel traps tho) ;)
Get littel bit of rust sorted on the ns sill (hasn't grown since I've had the car but in my head it's taking over the car)
Get all four wheels done black with red trim
Sort the annoying rattle in the passenger door (used too much speaker cab;e when I put the new speakers in last year and it vibrates, just can't be ar5ed to take the trim off again)

Just done this weekend, headlight cleaning and the spoiler gear bearing.

And to finish, try and drive it once in a while, hasn't moved that much recently and I'm gettting withdrawals.

Hmmm, sense a pattern emerging here...
Mine is:
Get front bumper resprayed - minor stonechips all over.
Get little bit of rust sorted on the ns sill (hasn't grown since I've had the car but...)
Replace speakers which are not sounding as good as they should.
Fix the non- working drivers side electric window.
Renovate osr caliper - did the other three but didn't get round to doing the last one.
Replace front boot struts.
Still, not bad for a 180,000 mile car.

Forgot to put down the brake ducts need fitting and plumbing in properly.

(if anyone's bought the ones from ebay and has actually fitted them can you let me know if you had to add a stop to the opposite side of the screw?)

Similar list

Almost urgent jobs.

1) Front Bumper paint
2) Rear Bumper paint
3) Front wings paint
4) Windscreen out and rust bubbles sorted
5) Wheel re-furbish of Cup 1s or Tyres on Diamond cut D90s
6) Sunroof cables (Sunroof has stopped working at the weekend. Will only move lefthand side)
7) Replace cracked indicators (Where some tool in my work car park drove into the front bumper/indicator but didn't leave a note. M*ron.)
8) Replace the non-OE brake discs/pads with something less pants

Non-urgent

1) Interior carpet could do with replacement
2) Aero/Cup mirrors
3) 'Performance' mods

I feel I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel with my car. Having had it for a little over 3 years now I've got most of the urgent jobs done.

The one (somewhat annoying) job to be done this year is to address a problem with the turbo arch extesions on the front wings. When the car was resprayed last year there was a small amount of bubbling around the join line and the body shop did a pretty good job of fixing it - but it seems there is more of the same beginning to come through the new paint.

I suspect the only real solution is to get the filler out and get the joints leaded. That, of course, means painting the wings again.

At least I think the engine is going to be good for at least another couple of years given the limited amount of use I give it.

Ho hum - now where did I put that cheque book???

Regards

Dave

More bodywork than i could possibly have imagined[:(]Being done now[:(]Will cost a packet[&:]will look lovely after though...

I bought some from EBay and put some little brass tangs in opposite the screws, then a little dremel in the PU.

Excuse me being thick Kevin, but what's a tang??

Happily (and amazingly) my list is complete:

Have done all repairs: bodywork, aircon rebuild, brakes
and improvements: suspension, exhaust, lights, etc.

So now its in A1 condition, standard but with sensible improvements to make it more exciting and up-to-date.

A very happy bunny indeed, at last!

Now just need to maintain it!

...and of course when I get tempted by something else to do.....

Any chance of a pic of the seats Rob?

Looking at different options at the min. and fancy something diff to the SPG's. Access not an issue as I only use the front seats!

Thanks

Rob

They look great Rob, are they a GT3 seat or just similar? I thought they'd bit a lot tighter fit than that.

Did you have any issues fitting?

I've got exactly the same problems Robmug!
I have recaro seats in my 1991 C2 964 (rs sorta- thing), i can't even jam my brief case into the back , shopping bags are a no no and anyone taller than 2ft 10 or weightier than 2 stone...forget it ...they're never getting in the back!

For originally very expensive cars...they seem to have a lot of problems....my bleeding windscreen de mister has already blown (on day 2 of ownership-it worked on the test drive) and the engine has developed a whine (1 week after taking ownership!!).

All the fan issues etc are forgotten when i see her sitting on y driveway though!

Add to my list a new problem!
1. fix the bloody windscreen demister...probably gonna be pricey.
2. The air inlet pipe that sucks air into the air filter box somehow came off and got chewed by the engine cooler fan!

Watch this space for new additions!

Forgot to put down the brake ducts need fitting and plumbing in properly.

(if anyone's bought the ones from ebay and has actually fitted them can you let me know if you had to add a stop to the opposite side of the screw?)

Yes and yes. I simply used a self-tapper as a pin on the other side (screwed into the PU with a hole to locate it in on the duct). I had a bit of shaping to do at the other end to make them fit flush, but overall I was pleased with them for the money and they look the business on the car.

My list:

Get bonnet and probably front bumper painted as both front wings ended up being done when the windscreen surround corrosion was repaired and the bonnet especially looks tired in comparison
Straighten out the bottom of the front bumper after nudging a kerb in Sainsbury's car park
Fit front speakers I have had since just before I bought the car
Fit passenger teardop mirror as just today it came apart when I was folding it out after it being folded in []
Fit braided brake hoses and change the fluid
Get and fit RS rear bumper centre section
Get KW variant 3 suspension kit as the springs only that I bought as a stopgap are crap
Rebuild top end as it has a small leak (nothing unusual, but I don't like it), or replace it with a 993TT engine if I can find one
Fit bigger front brakes
Run ducting from my brake ducts!
Get leather cover for handbrake lever as PO painted it (seriously) and it lets the otherwise very, very nice interior down
Give the interior a good clean that it hasn't had since I bought the car [&o]
Get an acorn silencer so I can swap out the G-pipe for trackdays as I'll get black flagged as it is now
Replace the rear lights and script panel as they are pretty badly crazed and faded
Fit xenon headlight kit, probably with new lights
Get Cup1 wheels refurbed as they are slightly scuffed in places (bought them used)
Retro-fit air-con (or alternatively do very little of the above and sell the car)

That'll be enough to be going on with.

Completed so far:

Properly fix corrosion around front screen with new repair panels
Refurb all brake callipers
New discs and pads all round
Fit decat pipe & G-pipe (acorn silencer was split)
Replace wishbones
Fit lowering springs
Change Boxster wheels [:'(] for Cup 1's
Fit teardrop mirrors
Fit brake ducts
plus some other I have forgotten I think
