Looking back at my thread on the Yellowstuff pads got me wondering about what sort of life expectancy others have had with their discs. Anyone had their car long enough to comment? Melv , Tony etc??

37 k km on it, 4th set of discs now. Now using RS 19, seem to be more disc friendly. As long as the cracks are around the holes, no problem. Longer cracks - watch them. As soon as they reach the outer edge - change disc immediately. (Advice given by Roland Kussmaul some years ago)

Thats not a crack - thats a crevasse [:-]. The people who look after my car get worried when the length of crack exceeds 5mm ......not sure if they are measuring from tip to tip or from edge of drilled hole to tip , think its the latter , also think that is pretty conservative compared to how far it would have to go to reach edge .....ORIGINAL: Hacki

I seem to use one pair of front discs for every 2 sets of front pads , and have used a variety of Pagid colours - black , black , grey , now yellow.
It seems to go by number of trackdays rather than km , say 15-20 trackdays to a set of front discs []

For the record, my set of fronts have lasted 20 months, 8000 miles and about 10 track days...... and I did two sets of pads in that time.
Now..... where is the favourite place to buy a new set of OEM discs and pads. Porsche are not cheap, so I wonder if anyone else does a better deal.
Also, is the big red brake conversion worth the cash / bother?
Thanks and see some of your at Silverstone tomorrow?

Lucky to see more than 5-6 track days from the front disks.
Used a variety of Pagid colours from blue to yellow and now black
Rear discs last considerably longer - in fact they must of done near 20 track days.
Do you use diamond tipped brake pads on the front?

Unfortunalty not! Considering I do have real front brake vents I'm always amazed at how quickly the cracks appear after only 3-4 days on track. I then get about another 2-3 days before the cracks reach the edge of the disc.
I always do at least 3/4 lap cool down and having spoken to my indie they reckon that the life I get out of the disks is about average.
I will add that the current set have lasted 6 days - Rockingham, 3 Silverstone, 2 hard days at Spa plus a wet trip to the Ring - both Rockingham and Spa are not very brake friendly or perhaps I should just do less braking.

Can't believe the cracks reach the edges so quickly Paul. You must get sick of changing the disks all the time! I have never experienced this which just goes to show how different ( unique ) RS's are. They are all the same but none of them are the same[&:] if you know what I mean.
Maybe it's those cooling ducts which are causing the problem, as most cars don't have "real" ones like yours?[]

Hi there,
I though to buy 928 gts discs ( witch are same as but plain) and get them sloted and cryogenic traited ,down side will may be the wheigh ,but I am almost certain it will work
price for plain disc is 150 £ each and 100 £ for a pair to slot traited and cryogenic traited I though not bad value for no craks and good brakes.
