Cannot afford a RS so what model is recommended after this, would not be tracking just fast road use (did i say that ?) what do i look for and what are they like to maintain, pretty handy with the spanners.
Keep hearing that they are hard to maintain engine wise so this is putting me off ?
Where will i find rust if any ?

Give us a chance! [&:] If it was a specific question you would have got a reply straight away (presuming someone knew the answer) but when you ask such an open question, replies are going to take longer to put together.

In case you come back my 2p is:

For road only it doesn't matter if it's a C2 or C4 because you won't notice the difference although a C4 might be a bit more forgiving in the wet. Therefore buy the best condition one you find in your budget.

There's plenty of us on here that work on our own cars and there's probably not much you can't do yourself with a little patience. Rennlist is a mine of information and help for the 964 DIYer.

Rust - do a search to find the issues and to start you off there's already a 'rust on the base of the windscreen' thread running on this page.

A quick response on rust - all four corners where wings meet bumper sections, above rear lights, gusset plate between rear wings and engine bay, oil tank mountings to body, outer sills behind plastic covers, front scuttle panel. Sounds bad when listed but not actually that much work/cost to rectify.

Thanks Neil,
They do say patience (SP) is a virtue ? could i service one myself engine wise, what is the deal with the dual mass flywheel can i tell what is fitted to the car.
Is there much power loss in a 4 compared to a 2 ?
Cheers Jim.

Servicing one yourself is straight forward as long as you have plenty of time. The time is in taking off all the exhaust and then the engine covers so that he valve covers are exposed. A service kit that includes oil filter, air filter, valve cover gaskets, cat gasket, exhaust bolts, valve cover nuts, 2 x sealing rings and 12 x spark plugs costs about £110. Then you need to spend about £75 on 12 litres of quality oil.
