Been thinking about a Boxster S for my day to day car but never take much notice of what manufactures say mpg is, can a few of you let me know what you get in the real world if you use your car every day

i drove 120miles down to london the other week, all motorways and sticking somewhere between 70-80mph i managed to get 44mpg in my 2006 2.7manual.

Driving around town i'm lucky if i get 23mpg.

Driving like a twat i get 18mpg.

On my 2005 2.7 tip, which should be similar to a 3.2 manual, over 17000 miles average 27mpg. Mix of driving mainly commuting (in Glasgow - no great hardship!) plus a few long trips including Le Mans. Top mpg 31 but could have been so much better if I had been a good boy... Real world worst was 20 mpg but that was sitting in traffic and roadworks.

I used to get 29 average in the Boxster S 2003 with a little town driving included or 9.3 on the track.

We get an average 24/25 combining long runs with town (never bothered to seperate the two types)
in our 2007 3.4 S. Was about the same with the previous 2003 S
Cheers
Tom

2004 3.2 S
Most of the time (commuting) around 27mpg.
Absolute best was about 35mpg from MK to Leicester and back via M1.
Worse was Brands Hatch - 8mpg!

After 9,300 miles of town trips, commuting, roof down weekends, one track day, a Le mans trip and a French tour I'm averaging 22.3 mpg.

2006 2.7 Tip does not vary much no matter how i drive it average is 28.9 showing on the computer ,once got 31.8 Get slightly better 29.8 if using 97octane super other wise 95 octane is used regularly cannot tell the difference in performance .

you can afford to buy a GT3 RS Gen 2 and a boxster S and you care about the mpg?? mpg will be defined by your right foot and the types of roads your drive on everyone is different...........just buy one.

The difference I do 2-3K miles a year in the GT3 RS but 20K miles a year in the day to day car, so I dont wish to throw my money away otherwise I cant buy the next car[:)]

20k per year is alot, but i still think you should go for it. im assuming alot of that mileage is on motorway? then you should get "good" mpg out of it.....go buy one...with cruise control

Over 20,000 miles my 3.2S (manual 6-speed) has averaged 29.5mpg with a mix of town and rural driving including commuting. Usual is 31mpg. Best was 41mpg on a 120 mile trip with a mix of A roads and motorways. Worst was 10mpg around Mallory Park and Donington tracks.

I have a 2.9 Generation 2 Boxter with PDK. I use the car everyday to travel from Cardiff to all regions of the country. On motorways I get (according to the computer) 35 - 40mpg. Local driving drops down to 33.8mpg.

On my 2007 3.4 S, used as a daily commute, averaging 25 - 27 with a mixture of motorways and A roads. I have tried to experiment a few times to see how much I could get, but an absolute lack of self control means the best i could get was over about 30 miles was 31 mpg driving like Miss Daisy! In the end, what was the point??, gave up.
Just enjoy

Martyn

If you do buy a new S with PDK you will be surprised at how frugal they can be.

If you drive like a pussy they will do 40mpg.

I'm struggling to understand what's the best speed for fuel efficiency. I seem to be getting best mileage at around 80ish - but my trip takes so long to change from one state to the next I could be mistaken.

In my 2000 Boxster S I used to get about 23mpg around town and on a 6 mile commute but got over 32 mpg when I drove from Derby to Brussels on one tank of fuel ( 406 Miles total )

In my Cayman S I get about 22-24 mpg local running around on commuting it depends more on traffic than anything else but 86 mile round mostly motorway/dual carriageway mostly wing raised I got about 29mpg but I have on a Sunday morning done a 70 mile trip no hold ups pretty quickly and got over 31 mpg so, less traffic,= quicker journey & less fuel.

In a 944 turbo I used to get 22 mpg every week commuting etc, similar on a 924S and a 968 Tiptronic on long runs each could get about 26 mpg but the turbo was too tempting and rarely did but it was great fun!

I once drove a 3.2 Carrera to Paris and got 27mpg at legal speeds overnight.
