What other mods can be done to the S2?

Its seems that LIL has recently got all the attention with the 3.2 L turbo and 300+ bhp.
I wonder if there are other mods can be done to my S2 to beef-up the performance or there really isn't much I can do on the S2.

Here are the mods that I have so far done to my S2 (and I guess all these mods may add 10 bhp plus better driveability):
1) K&N filter
2) Promax chip
3) High performance leads and spark plugs
4) Dynatech strut brace
5) Straight thru pipe to replace the mid silencer
6) Use Tesco 99 RON fuel all the time

I have recently replaced the front and rear shock so won't consider upgrades in that area for a while. The mods that I am considering are:
- drill some holes on the airbox cover
- Supercharging
- re-map
- performance exhaust
- a V8

I too have started a on a similar trip but not got as far as you.

Which of the changes have you found most impressive so far. Any you dont think were worth the effort or cash? Which spark plugs did you pick?

I have done the K& N filter, de-cat. I am planning the rest of the exhaust in Feb. Then thinking of the chip after that.

Apologies if you've already done this, but...

High Performance driving coaching and/or Racing school lessons give the biggest-bang-for-the-buck performance-wise.

Transferable between cars too [:D]

Nitrous oxide if you want busts of extra power on demand, is probably the best value per BHP and can be safe if setup and installed properly.

Charles.
THE best way to "BOOOST" the performance of the S2 is to ADD LIGHTNESS... Or in other words lose weight... "From the car that is."....[;)][:D][;)][:D]..

OR have a full engine re-build , lightening + balancing it in the process...
I had mine done just under a year ago at EMC ,, Best thing ever.. it revs SO much free,er...+ also gives the 968 boys a good pasting on track...[:D][:D][:D] As its now kicking out aprox 250bhp [ at the flywheel]....

Anything else [ below that] + i believe your just playing at it.....[;)][:D][;)][:D][;)][:D]

OR alternatively go on a GOOD driving course ......Tuition is well worth having,,, So long as you go willing to learn....

Hey guys,

Thanks for the lessons on driving courses/lessons. I just want to know if there are other mods that's all.

Talking about weighting shredding ...

The boot lid on the S2 Cab is so heavy (probably its the same in the 968 Cab) - are there any replacement with lighter material?

Charles,

I am watching this thread with interest!

How much difference did the chip make for you? I seem to have talked to a number of people who have chipped their S2's, and no-one is willing to say that it made a huge difference. Several people said it made it smoother, a few said that it removed the 'step' that comes in at around 4kRPM, but no-one said that it really made the car quicker. What is your experience?

I have drilled holes in the airbox on my S2. Four very large ones (approx 3cm diameter) across the front. I'm not convinced it made that much difference, and probably wouldn't recommend it personally. If you want to try borrowing my airbox sometime (so you can try the mod without cutting yours around) then drop me a line - more than happy to spend a half-day playing cars (and I don't think I am that far from you either.)

Oli.

Somthing I wish i had done when I finally added up what I'd spent on my S2([:(]) is.... Buy a 911 instead!

Hi Jon, do you have info on NOS, I looked at it when Brett on the other forum was experimenting, he worked with Wizards of Noz I think, with a self-fit system, how much damage is it likely to do?

Jez,

I have the BERU Ultra-X plugs.

Hi Charles
I guess you got these with the Promax Chip? What do you think of them? They were / are next on my shopping list? Should I bother?

Instead of going for an off-the-shelf chip hows about getting one custom mapped? A bit more expensive but I guess you are likely to get a better result that is tailored for your exact car.

Sorry for haven't replied to the questions since I have just came back from a week break in the Arctic Circle. I was so impressed that those guys driving in the Finland have no chains/studs on the tyres in nearly -30C temp. I guess this explains why that produced so many great rally drivers.

Anyway, I found the Promax chip makes driving the S2 smoother and greater driveability across the range. I personally don't notice any major gain on bhp/torque though.
