What price for Sports Exhaust?

Michael Downing

New member
Hi all. The C4S is going to Swindon next month for service & its first MOT ... I am considering asking them to fit the Porsche Sports Exhaust while they have it.

Their quote for PSE with the switch is £1900 - I'd be very grateful to hear what prices others are paying at the moment in case I can use this to drive them down.

TIA.

They did miy 996 a couple of years ago for just under £1400, without the switch.

It was worth every penny - brilliant.

Lots of recent threads on this popular topic. Probably best if you do a search...

FYI, I paid around £1200 for the system, + £80 installation by an indi (this did not include fitting of the switch, which is NOT necessary...)

What... You TOLD her!!!! [:-]

LOL

What you need is a friendly service manager who tells you you NEED a new exhaust - oh, and by the way the PSE is made of some special material that will last three times as long as a conventional one and therefore better value for money in the long run...[;)] "So you see darling this will mean we can afford that ......... (insert curtains, shoes, holiday, carpet, etc as appropriate) you've always wanted..." (Lots of practice after 6 years of 911 ownership that I can't really afford!) LOL

Nottingham fitted mine for £1,595 less than a month ago...

A joint bank account if fine.... just have your salary go into your first !!! Always stops any arguments !

The C2 is just so much better with the PSE fitted and the button on the dash is well worth the money... I just let a collegue take it for a spin and listened to it roar out the car park........ JEEZ it's loud (My S4 had a Miltek system that was much quieter!)

I recently fitted a sports exhaust including the switch myself, which I could not have done without the help of the many posts found here and at RennTech.

Although I purchased my exhaust at Chiswick OPC I later found that www.carnewal.com are selling the complete exhaust including all hardware and switch for £1074 delivered and just the exhaust if you have no wish of fitting the switch for £993 which seems to me a good deal.

If its as simple as getting your local engineering workshop to weld a link pipe between inlet and outlet (they'd be robbing you if they charged as much as £100) why are people spending £1500+ on a POrScHe one?

I know. It really is that simple. The mod on mine is exactly the same as the "first generation" Porsche PSE (only suitable for 3.4 engines, I believe), but obviously without the shut-off valve. Richard Jones (on this forum) has modified his in a similar way to the latest PSE (again without the valve) and got the same result. It gives the same effect as a genuine PSE without the switch.

Hey David
Although I know nothing about this mod, DIY is always a lot cheaper than 'of the shelf in your car' solutions.
Do not forget that you do not get a brand new exhaust and further-more what ever goes wrong with your exhaust there is no guarantee to go back.
New designer exhausts are guaranteed for life and last but not least, most of them are re-designed to give you that extra for your money.

They fitted it for £1,595 including the switch . . . best accessory for the car IMHO !

so nice tootling around [8|] with it in 'quiet mode', then when you want to make a noise hit the button and rrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr ! [:D]

Just wish it was in quiet mode by default, as I have to press the button everymorning to avoid neighbours "givin me da evils"

Ther's a pair here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-911-996-EXHAUST-SILENCERS-A-PAIR_W0QQitemZ180049817159
A bit expensive though. I got mine for £99 (almost brand new)

Here are some modified ones from Oettle: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-911-996-Sport-Sound-Muffler-Exhaust_W0QQitemZ290048539521
And you get to keep your originals.

Or have a word with Tony at Wrightune on 01491-826911, and he'll modify yours. (I confess that Tony is a good friend of mine).
