What revs do you use for town driving?

In all my previous cars I sense they dislike being below 2K rpm. Indeed I remember a Renault from long ago having a green section on the rev counter to indicate an efficient range (I think it was 2-3k).

But my 993 seems very happy pottering along at 1.5k (or lower).

What rev range do you use for non-spirited driving?

When I'm in a queue of traffic I stay in first or second gear without touching the accelerator at all. The engine torque is usually sufficient to propel the car without any throttle. But then, when the traffic thins, I might use a bit of gas to keep up if necessary. I'm getting pretty good mpg at the moment, using the car for the daily commute.

I should just add, I have a manual geearbox.

Keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge - should always be at 5 or you're in too high a gear. Generally I try not to go below 2000 rpm (& not above 3000rpm when cold as per owner's manual). Main thing is not to let engine labour.
